Ben Fides: Newcastle haven't been in this game at all, but how on earth that wasn't a penalty I will never know!

"Much better from Newcastle right at the end of the first half. It just goes to show, Newcastle have players who can hurt Liverpool even if they are playing poorly."

Liverpool probably pleased to hear the whistle sound.

  10. CLOSE!published at 20:47 British Summer Time 13 April 2015

Mehdi Abeid won't want to see that again. Moussa Sissoko pulls the ball back to him inside the penalty area but he fires the ball horribly over.

  11. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:46 British Summer Time 13 April 2015

Out of nothing, Newcastle are almost level. Daryl Janmaat's dinked pass finds Ayoze Perez and his header from 16 yards is parried away by Simon Mignolet at full stretch. So close.

"Newcastle cannot be worse in the second half. The manager has to say something and make changes, but if they up their work-rate and effort they do have skilful players who can create chances and cause Liverpool problems, no question."

Newcastle are looking a tad bit more dangerous and Liverpool could yet regret not making more of the 62.2 % possession they have had.

Liverpool get a free kick out wide on the right. It will be swung into the penalty area... and is completely wasted as Phillipe Coutinho lazily walks into an offside position.

Zim: I can't decide whether Liverpool are making Newcastle look bad, or they are making us look good.

Javel Bleach: Liverpool need to find out how to turn clear domination into goals. Sometimes they're just getting away with a result, sometimes not.

Kaushik Gorai: He's not a Steven Gerrard replacement, but Henderson is starting to become a classy player. What passes. Showing real captaincy.

"There did look to be contact in the Liverpool box, but no Newcastle players appealed, at least at that moment. They crowded the referee afterwards, and often referees can react to players' instant reactions to incidents. That was a foul - Lovren went to hit the ball, he missed and he kicked Perez. That was a penalty."

  17. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:39 British Summer Time 13 April 2015

Ayoze Perez beats a couple of Liverpool defenders on the edge of the penalty area before going down inside under the challenge of Dejan Lovren. The defender swings wildly at the ball, misses it and Perez has been harshly done by there. Penalty for me.

"I almost feel sorry for John Carver. The players look like they are not working for their manager. Who has made a tackle, who has closed Liverpool down? The least you can do is put yourself about a bit.

"It seems a token effort for Newcastle, which is a horrible thing to have to say. Are they giving everything? It doesn't necessarily look like it this evening."

  19. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:37 British Summer Time 13 April 2015

Brilliant from Newcastle stopper Tim Krul as he dives to his left to punch away Lucas's header from close range. The flag is up for offside anyway - so Krul may as well have let it in.

I'll bet Phillipe Coutinho cuts some moves on a dance floor. The Brazilian wiggles his hips, drops his shoulder, waves his feet and almost gets a chance to double the lead. He beats a couple of Newcastle defenders on the edge of the penalty area but his shot is blocked.
