  29. SUBSTITUTION

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Suddenly the home crowd comes to life as Craig Mackail-Smith comes on for Mustapha Carayol. Will that change inject some much needed urgency into Brighton's play?

  30. Post update

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Middlesbrough, Bournemouth and Norwich fans will not be happy with this. This has descended into something like a testimonial with very little sign of urgency from Brighton. It's all too comfortable for Watford.

  31. CLOSE!

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

How did that stay out? A huge chance for Watford to double their lead but Adlene Guedioura and Odion Ighalo get in one another's way with the net gaping allowing the home side to snuff out the danger.

It doesn't get any better for Leeds supporters. After dominating the opening half-hour, they saw their side fall behind to a Chris Maguire penalty.

  44. HALF-TIME

  50. Post update

    Sheffield Wednesday 0-0 Leeds United

Leeds have had the better of the early stages in the Yorkshire derby at Hillsborough. Alex Mowatt had a clear opening after 60 seconds following a mistake by Tom Lees, but Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood saved. Mowatt has also gone close with a free-kick, while Luke Murphy failed to get enough power on a volley.

  51. Post update

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

Watford's fans are celebrating as though promotion is guaranteed. It's not. Brighton come close to equalising as Chris O'Grady lets fly from 20-yards, Heurelho Gomes producing a magnificent flying save to keep it out. Watford's defence has gone to sleep.

  52. Post update

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

  53. Post update

    Brighton 0-1 Watford

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Brighton defender Guy Butters: "You could see it coming, Brighton didn't clear it. The ball went high from Greg Halford's header. Deeney was there with a good finish and there was no chance for David Stockdale.

"It was a tremendous first touch out of his feet and he will not miss from there. But this game sums up Brighton's season. Had lots of possession, not making it count and going behind."

  54. GOAL

Brighton 0-1 Watford - Troy Deeney (28 mins)

  55. SUBSTITUTION

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Slavisa Jokanovic has seen enough. There are just 25 minutes on the clock but Ikechi Anya's afternoon is over. The midfielder does not look injured as he is replaced by Daniel Tozser. There's a hug for Anya from Jokanovic but the player does not look overly happy about being dragged off.

    Slavisa Jokanovic
  56. Post update

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

There's plenty of movement on the Watford bench. Could Slavisa Jokanovic be contemplating an early change? He won't be particularly pleased with what he has seen so far. Greg Halford leaps high above the Hornets defence to head another Brighton chance over.

  57. Post update

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Happy beside the seaside? Not Watford. It's been uncomfortable for the Premier League hopefuls so far. Brighton are dominating midfield.

  59. Post update

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

  61. Post update

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Brighton defender Guy Butters: "What I like from Mustapha Carayol is that he has the pace to take on his full-back, it was good control on his chest from Bennett, but he just flashed the volley wide. Brighton look up for the game."

  62. Post update

  67. Post update

    Brighton 0-0 Watford

Early nerves on show from those in Watford's colours. Brighton have made the better start and should really be in the lead. Chris O'Grady should have tested Heurelho Gomes at the very least.

  68. Post update

  73. Not rocket science for 'Rocket Man' Elton's Watford

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

    Maths

Calculator? Tick. Abacas? Tick. Actually, the maths is quite simple for Watford. They will be promoted if they beat Brighton and other results, later in the day, go their way. Should they win and Middlesbrough lose and Norwich fail to win, then the first promotion from the Championship will be confirmed. Simple.

  75. Brighton's role in promotion race

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

It hasn't been a good season for Brighton, who reached the play-offs last term. This campaign Sami Hyypia has come and gone while Chris Hughton has lost more matches than he has won since taking over at the end of December. Yet the Seagulls, who are still not mathematically safe fro relegation, can have a big say in who wins automatic promotion. Brighton's final match of the season next week? Away to third-placed Middlesbrough.

  77. From manager chaos to brink of Premier League

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

    Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic

It is pretty remarkable that Watford find themselves on the brink of the Premier League after the behind-the-scenes-chaos there earlier this season. Former Chelsea midfielder Slavisa Jokanovic is the Hornets' fourth manager this term. They started with Beppe Sannino but he resigned on 31 August amid reports of an unhappy squad. Oscar Garcia was appointed on 2 September but he quit for health reasons on 29 September. That paved the way for Billy McKinlay but he lasted just a few days before Jokanovic's appointment on 7 October.

  78. Team news

Sheff Wed v Leeds (12:30 BST)

Sheffield Wednesday make four changes at Hillsborough. Keiren Westwood is back in goal in place of Chris Kirkland, while Marnick Vermijl, Jacques Maghoma and Jose Semedo come in as Kamil Zayatte, Sam Hutchinson and Filipe Joaquim Melo Silva drop out.

There's just one change for Leeds as Gaetano Berardi returns in place of Billy Sharp. Aidan White is on the bench after almost nine months out with a serious foot injury.

  79. The rivals

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

So what are Watford's promotion rivals up to today? Well, Middlesbrough, level on points with second-placed Bournemouth, will be backed by a huge away following at Fulham, while Norwich, fourth in the table and two points off automatic promotion, are also away at struggling Rotherham. Bournemouth do not play until Monday when they host Neil Lennon's Bolton.

  80. Post update

Sheff Wed v Leeds (12:30 BST)

Big action up in Yorkshire this lunchtime too as troubled Leeds make the short journey to Sheffield Wednesday, two teams with nothing to play for but pride. Leeds are looking to avoid a sixth straight league defeat while Wednesday are unbeaten in their last three matches. We'll bring you regular updates from Hillsborough.

  82. "Watford could be celebrating on M25"

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 live

    M25

BBC Sport Football League reporter Mark Clemmit: "With two games left, this could be the weekend we see teams going up and Watford could do it albeit in a scruffy and unsatisfactory way. If they win at Brighton in the early kick-off then they'll be looking at Norwich and Middlesbrough's results, and they could be on the M25 when they learn what has happened. The Championship promotion race has been truly enthralling. I still think you can back all top four teams to win their last two games."

  83. Cruyff, Elvis...Watford win promotion?

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

Former Barcelona and Ajax manager Johan Cruyff is celebrating his 68th birthday, while Elvis Presley had his first USA No 1 with "Heartbreak Hotel" on this date in 1956. Will 25 April go down in Watford's history as the date they returned to the big time?

  84. A title race to remember

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

    Championship table

One hundred and eighty minutes of the Championship season remaining, four teams going hammer and tongs for two automatic promotion spots. Have you ever known a finish like it?

But 2,926 days and 418 weeks after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed eight years ago, Watford will be back if they secure three points at the Amex Stadium, Middlesbrough lose and Norwich fail to win.

  85. Team news

    Brighton v Watford (12:15 BST)

Brighton make four changes from the side that lost 2-1 at Wigan last Saturday as Lewis Dunk, Jake Forster-Caskey, Mustapha Carayol and Chris O'Grady all start. Watford change three of their starting line-up from the team that beat Birmingham 1-0 last week. Matthew Connolly is back after a hamstring injury, while Ikechi Anya and Odion Ighalo also play for Slavisa Jokanovic's side.

  86. Friends of Watford

    Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston will probably never know the heartbreak suffered by Watford fans when they lost their Premier League place in 2007, nor will she ever care.

The former Friends actress might be the owner of a bright yellow Hornets shirt - a gift from an interviewer during a trip to London - but Aniston has yet to be caught up by the tidal wave of promotion fever engulfing the Hertfordshire town.

Defeat Brighton in their penultimate match of the season and "Rocket Man" Elton John could be reaching for the top flight stars. And Jennifer might, just might, be sporting Watford's colours on her next red carpet appearance.
