Juventus are cruising in Serie A, 15 points clear of second-place Lazio with seven games remaining. The treble chasers face the capital side in the Coppa Italia final.

Monaco's season has been somewhat different. Since downscaling in the summer - including losing James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao - they sit third in Ligue 1, six points off top with five games left. They looked set for a mid-table finish before a revival in the second half of the season.

Gianluigi Buffon is one of the best goalkeepers of our generation, maybe of all time. But he's never won the biggest club tournament of them all. At 37, he thinks he still has time.

"This game is important for me, my team-mates and the club as a whole," he said.

"Reaching the semi-finals would show that Juventus are coming on leaps and bounds and also display that we're 'back' on the European stage. This is perhaps the most significant aspect, which heightens the responsibility and pride felt at being here.

"Winning the tournament is an achievement that I've personally missed out on and one that Juve have gone too long without. I have no idea when it will happen, but I hope it will be as soon as possible."

Just the one game in the Football League tonight and without wishing to put a dampener on things it's a bit of a dead rubber.

Reading host Birmingham, both sides are safe and neither can trouble the play-offs. Put the youth team out.

There's another night of action under the spring sunshine in Scottish football, where the main event is in the Premiership, as Dundee host leaders Celtic, while there is also an important game in the Championship, with Livingston hosting Hibernian.

At Dens Park, Celtic and Dundee both play their final game before the Premiership splits into two sections of six teams. A victory for Celtic and the Glasgow side will stretch their lead at the top of the table over Aberdeen to eight points with five games remaining.

At Livingston, Hibs are looking to narrow the gap on second-top Rangers to one point, while the home side can move to within a point of second-bottom Alloa Athletic as they look to avoid relegation.

So how have tonight's rivals done in the Champions League this season? Well Monaco topped their group, despite scoring only four goals - conceding once. They then dumped Arsenal out in the last 16 on away goals after a 3-3 aggregate draw.

None of their players have scored more than one goal in this season's tournament.

Juventus finished second to Atletico Madrid in their group and then thrashed Borussia Dortmund 5-1 on aggregate. Carlos Tevez is their top scorer with six in the 2014-15 Champions League so far.

Monaco make two changes from the first leg as Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Toulalan come in for Ricardo Carvalho and Nabil Dirar. Striker Dimitar Berbatov remains benched.

One change for Juventus - defender Andrea Barzagli replaces midfielder Roberto Pereyra, so perhaps a tactical reshuffle. Juve are boosted by Arturo Vidal, the only goalscorer in the first leg, as he overcomes the flu.

Monaco: Subasic, Fabinho, Raggi, Abdennour, Kurzawa, Kondogbia, Toulalan, Silva, Moutinho, Carrasco, Martial. Subs: Stekelenburg, Wallace, Elderson, Dirar, M Carvalho, Berbatov, Germain.

Juventus: Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Lichtsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, Evra, Tevez, Morata. Subs: Storari, Ogbonna, Padoin, Pereyra, Sturaro, Llorente, Matri.

Both these sides have European Cup pedigree; Juventus have been to seven finals - winning in 1985 and 1996 - while Monaco reached the final once.

But the two clubs have had to wait a long time to reach the last four of the tournament again.

It is 2004 since Monaco reached the semi-finals, the season they lost the final to Jose Mourinho's Porto.

More surprising is Juventus's wait for semi-finals - a year longer, losing to AC Milan in the 2003 final.

These clubs met in the 1997-98 last four, with Juve winning 6-4 on aggregate. Alessandro Del Piero scored four of Juve's goals, with Thierry Henry netting for Monaco - a year before he left for Turin.

"The Champions League got predictable a long time ago. It's always the same teams in the semi-finals," said BBC Radio 5 live's Pat Nevin after Bayern hammered Porto last night.

The winners of tonight's game will be the exception as Monaco and Juventus are competing for a first semi-final in over a decade.
