Well, that wasn't in the script for Mick McCarthy's side.

After that goal, it's fair to say that things got a little bit feisty between the two sets of supporters, but the police and stewards have calmed things down.

The Norwich fans are in dreamland. They've won their last four derbies and, as things stand, they could make that five.

  2. GOALpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

We have a breakthrough, and the visitors are in front.

Cameron Jerome does really well down the left and bursts away from Tommy Smith before squaring the ball in towards the on-rushing Jonny Howson, who finishes very neatly into the bottom corner.

Daryl Murphy is unmarked and rises well to meet a Luke Chambers cross, but his glancing header across goal goes wide of the far post.

  4. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Cameron Jerome is stretching his hamstring a little bit, which will be a concern for Norwich fans.

He's having a decent game so far, using his strength well, as he so often does.

  5. Postpublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

The substitute has a chance immediately but Paul Anderson can't get his header on target. We remain goalless here.

"It's safe to say chances that been few and far between, but the match has still been as enthralling as you'd have expected before kick-off.

"Norwich have Jon Ruddy to thank after that superb early double save, but Alex Neil's side appear to be growing into the match in front of the intimidating Town fans.

"Speaking of which, some of the chants show there isn't much love lost between the two sets of fans."

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

This doesn't look good for Luke Varney. Sad to see, especially in such a big game.

The Ipswich man is taken off on a stretcher, and there is sympathetic applause from all around the ground.

Paul Anderson comes on to replace him.

  8. Postpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Luke Varney has gone down off the ball. His body twisted as he fell in agony. That looked painful, and when you're injured without any contact with another player, it can often mean it's a pretty bad one.

  9. Postpublished at 12:41 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

The visitors are having some joy down their right flank and another good chance finds Bradley Johnson at the far post, but he heads wide.

Norwich inches away from the opener. Alex Tettey hits a curler from outside the area and it clips the outside of the post! Bartosz Bialkowski didn't move in the Ipswich goal.

The home fans breath a sigh of relief.

  11. Postpublished at 12:38 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Nathan Redmond finds Steven Whittaker on the overlap and he sends in a dangerous cross for Jonny Howson, but Luke Chambers jumps well to block his header.

That's Norwich's best move of the match so far.

  12. Postpublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Ipswich goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski sends a simple long clearance astray, out for a throw on the halfway line, and Mick McCarthy is furious with him.

John Ruddy's double save remains the only goalmouth action we've seen so far.

Steve Smith:, external It's time to see Ipswich back in the top flight. 2-1, today; 0-0 at Carrow Road

Ross Potter:, external As much as I hate to admit it, our record against Norwich recently has been terrible, and can't see us changing that today.

Goalless so far. Who's going to make the difference today?

  14. Postpublished at 12:29 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Norwich have had a lot of the ball so far, but are yet to have an effort on goal. Alex Tettey is getting stuck in in midfield

  15. Postpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Daryl Murphy is undoubtedly Ipswich's biggest threat going forward. He has 27 goals in all competitions so far this season. Norwich will need to keep him as quiet as possible today, but he is already looking lively.

  16. GREAT SAVE!published at 12:24 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

The game sparks in to life. Ipswich with a huge chance.

Daryl Murphy does well to burst into the area, squares the ball to Freddy Sears and John Ruddy pulls of a good save to deny him, before stopping Luke Varney's follow-up header as well. Excellent goalkeeping

  17. Postpublished at 12:21 British Summer Time 9 May 2015

Both sets of fans are making plenty of noise. No clear opening for either side yet, although the ball did fall for Norwich midfielder Graham Dorrans within shooting distance but he couldn't connect with his volley - cue taunts from the home crowd.
