Thanks Blake. Well, we say farewell to the 2014-2015 Premier League season. Newcastle after yet another "season horribilis" manage to secure safety on the last day of their campaign with, in all fairness, quite a comfortable win.

And West Ham say goodbye to manager West Ham, after another season their fans can be content with.

So I guess everybody is reasonably happy.

    Until next season.

"I don't think anyone could say Newcastle didn't deserve the result today. There was a great atmosphere, the players showed they wanted to stay in the Premier League and the fans backed them. I'm delighted they will be playing top-flight football next season.

"Jonas Gutierrez scoring at the end is a fantastic story. If there is one guy who really works his socks off it's Jonas, and he was doing it in my time at the club too. After all he has been through I know how much that goal will mean to him today. He has shown incredible commitment to the club.

"Now if they stop selling their best players, bring in a few new faces and play the best team in cup competitions, you never know, we might just have a very good club on our hands."

    Newcastle's delighted coach John Carver:

"I told the players it was going to be a 90-minute rollercoaster and I thought we controlled our emotions quite well. We knew what was happening at Hull, but we had to go about our own business. Credit to West Ham manager Sam Allardyce for putting out a strong side. There were no 'gimmies' and it was a good performance.

"The whole season has been difficult, when we went to New Zealand we lost the two lads [two fans John Alder and Liam Sweeney died in the 2014 Malaysian Airlines crash in Ukraine], and that was a tragedy. I think they were looking down on us today. There have been some tough times, but I'm stronger for it. I knew when I looked in players eyes they were ready for this. Every player deserves credit. We have not had a good season, but I am going to enjoy this moment.

"I still want this job, I love this club but I know this is a big summer. We have to invest. Owner Mike Ashley has said that and that is encouraging. I want a summer where I can bring in the players I want. Today has given me more enthusiasm to do what I want to do."

"West Ham gave a really good account of themselves today and made Newcastle work for it. Credit to John Carver - the home side have got over the line.

"I do feel desperately sorry for Steve Bruce because he's had a lot of bad luck. Injuries, the situation with Jake Livermore, and even though the investment has been there it's been difficult because this year has just not gone for them."

Anyway, it's all happening at St James'. Back to the match outcome, which sees Newcastle avoid relegation following a 2-0 win over West Ham.

Hull were held 0-0 by Manchester United. A win for Steve Bruce's side would have not affected the bottom three.

  10. Allardyce to leave West Hampublished at 17:09 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

    West Ham's soon-to-be-ex-manager Sam Allardyce:

"There wasn't a contract talked about. It's right for both of us to move on. I've enjoyed this opportunity to manage this football club.

"I take great pride in what I've achieved and what I've helped the football club do. A huge amount of players came in and went out. Everything the club has asked me to do I've delivered. I'll have a break and see what happens. I'll have a summer without worrying about pre-season and what's happening with players.

"I think it's time for me to go. We move on. I spoke to the chairman and said I enjoyed my time [here]. All my contact was with David Sullivan. The relationship in football terms was with David Sullivan.

"I'm not in the market for the start of next season, I wouldn't have thought so. When you get the opportunity to have a break you don't jump out of the frying pan and into the fire.

"I've had a lot more good times here then not so good ones. The club is in a fantastic position."

  11. Allardyce to leave West Hampublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Many thought it was going to happen, and now it's official. West Ham will be looking for a new manager.

    Club statement:

"West Ham United will begin the search for a new manager after the club decided not to renew the contract of Sam Allardyce following the conclusion of the 2014-15 season.

"Joint-chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold will now oversee the recruitment process for a new manager to lead the club into one of the most exciting eras in its history. The Hammers will bid an emotional farewell to the Boleyn Ground, their home of more than 110 years, next season before the club moves to London's premier, state-of-the-art 54,000 seater stadium on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in August 2016.

"The board has already compiled a shortlist of replacements for Allardyce and will be making significant transfer funds available for the successful candidate."

You could not script it. Of all the people. Jonas Gutierrez. A relative stalwart of the team, a guy who didn't know whether he would play again after undergoing treatment for cancer this season, scores the goal that will surely keep Newcastle in the Premier League.

The Argentine got hold of the ball in midfield then struck a low shot that took a deflection en route to beating Adrian.
