  1. HOW DID HE MISS?published at 16:10 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

It's Emmanuel Riviere again!! How on earth did he fail to connect??

Daryl Janmaat cruises down the right and plays a lovely square ball for the French striker who misses the ball altogether. It actually went through his legs after he shaped to shoot. Inexplicable.

  2. Postpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Jonas Gutierrez, who season was halted because of cancer treatment, goes on a surging run but fails to find a final ball for Papiss Cisse. But Newcastle are through again...

  3. Postpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Jack Colback delivers. The ball reaches Mike Williamson, who flicks the ball to the far post, but no one takes advantage. Goal kick.

Newcastle start the second half brightly. It has been a good performance by the Magpies today so far. And now they win their first corner of the game.

    Back underway, by the way.

Synchronised starts to the second half here and at Hull's KC Stadium. Beautiful.

The teams are back out. Magpies owner Mike Ashley, who gave his first TV interview today, has his arms folded.

Yup. That's the situation. Hull had two disallowed goals - rightly, ruled out for offside, while Manchester United keeper Victor Valdes - him of Barcelona fame - made a great save.

Shamoon Hafez is bringing you the action from that match.

Lots of Newcastle fans are checking their smartphones. Not exactly a look of delight across their faces, more one that is tentative.

"Mild applause from Newcastle United's fans for their team at half-time - plenty of effort but not a great deal of quality. And not the slightest noise or reaction from the crowd as Hull City's half-time score is read out."

  12. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Right. Newcastle fans breathe easy. As it stands you lot will be watching your team play in the Premier League next season. Happy?

  13. Postpublished at 15:47 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Newcastle full-back Daryl Janmaat loves to go forward and on this occasion he sprints up the pitch before firing a shot that takes a slight deflection. Adrian untroubled.

  14. Postpublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

West Ham's young defender Reece Burke, 18, who has been largely chasing the ball this afternoon, fires a shot that takes a big deflection and spins into the hands of goalkeeper Tim Krul.

We are coming up to half-time. It's now Stoke 5-0 Liverpool. What larks!

  15. Elsewherepublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

By the way, it's Stoke 4-0 Liverpool. What a great two weeks for Steven Gerrard.

  16. Postpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

I'm never wholly convinced by goalkeeper Tim Krul and clearances. The Dutchman just about beats West Ham defender Carl Jenkinson to the ball on this occasion.

At the other end, Newcastle midfielder Jack Colback delivers to the far post for the arriving Daryl Janmaat, who fails to direct his bullet header on target.

  17. Postpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Nothing comes from the initial Jack Colback effort. Then Jonas Gutierrez has a pop from 30 yards which clears Adrian's goal by about 30 yards.

  18. Postpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

Now then. A free-kick to Newcastle after Winston Reid brings down Papiss Cisse. Thirty-five yards out.

  19. Postpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

    John Hartson
BBC Radio 5 live at KC Stadium

"Manchester United are fizzing the ball around well at the moment. Hull just can't get close enough. They started at such a fast pace but the away side are creeping back into it. Although Steve Harper is yet to be tested."

  20. Postpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 24 May 2015

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at St James' Park

"Just the first signs of anxiety here at St James' Park as the early fizz has gone out of Newcastle United's play. West Ham United have settled to their task. More moans and groans by the minute. Tense."
