Summary

  • PSG win third successive Ligue 1 title

  • FT: Sampdoria 0-1 Lazio

  • Lazio battling for Champions League spot

  1. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:26 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

    French Ligue 1

Time for a tactical switch from PSG. Laurent Blanc scribbles down the name of Lucas Moura on the substitution sheet, with goalscorer Ezequiel Lavezzi trudging off the pitch for the Brazilian.

These Montpellier chances are arriving quicker than Tube trains at Oxford Circus now. Another ball from a wide area, this time from the right and in open play, is scuffed goalwards by half-time substitute Kevin Berigaud but deflected wide. He wants - and should be given - a corner but the referee thinks otherwise and gives a goal kick.

Montpellier almost nick an equaliser! A free-kick is whipped into the PS box from the left flank, the ball pings off the shin of David Luiz and opposite centre-half Hilton reacts the quickest. But his sliding effort is blocked by a white PSG shirt as the visitors survive. A point would still be enough for PSG to claim the title.

Lazio are very much in control of this game and look more likely to get the second goal on the counter attack. Filip Dordevic has one such chance when he sweeps the ball goalwards only for Sampdoria defender Luca Rizzo to readjust his body to get a last-ditch block in.

Montpellier forward Anthony Mounier has now scored nine goals in Ligue 1 this season, the best total of his career. Unfortunately he won't be adding to that tally today - he has been subbed, presumably because of a knock.

Like the first half, the restart has burst into life around the 15-minute mark. The game is flowing from end to end like a game of basketball at the moment. PSG goalscorers Ezequiel Lavezzi and Blaie Matuidi have a breakdown in communication as a promising attacking move ends with a loose pass.

Bit of Montpellier pressure as they look to take advantage of any edginess from the champions-elect. Bryan Dabo tries to hammer a half clearance back towards with a vicious volley - but he doesn't connect cleanly and the ball spins hopelessly wide. That would have been a worldy.

Quiet start to the second half - pretty much like the first, which burst into life about the 15-minute mark. PSG waste a free-kick in a promising position as the home defence clear, before Serge Aurier's right-wing cross fails to pick out a fellow white shirt.

  9. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:07 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

There has also been a change in personnel for the home side, with goalscorer Anthony Mounier not reappearing after the break. Presume that is because of an injury rather than a tactical switch. Kevin Berigaud replaces him.

Toni Water: Goalkeeper Lev Yashin aka "the black spider". Just the 41 years with Dynamo Moscow, super stopper. Also Franky Van der Elst with Club Bruges. Two oldies but goodies!

PSG goalscorer Blaise Matuidi has caught the eye again with a typically energetic display. But do not expect to see the France international in the Premier League next season. Matuidi says he does not want to leave PSG after being linked with a move to Manchester United.

"I will be at Paris next season, unless the managers come and tell me they don't need me any more," said the 28-year-old midfielder, who is under contract until 2018.

"I feel good here, I'm valued by the coach, the managers and my team-mates. I love this city, I grew up here, everything's going well for me."

Sure enough Sampdoria's finishing has cost them as Lazio grab the lead from a corner. A dangerous inswinging delivery into the box and among all the jostling for position the ball drops at the back post and strikes the shin of the unmarked Santiago Gentiletti. There's just enough on power it to take it over the line despite a brave attempt to clear the ball by Samuel Eto'o.

Of course, PSG could even afford to lose tonight and still put their hands on the Ligue 1 trophy if nearest rivals Lyon do not beat Bordeaux at home. At the moment it is all square at Stade de Gerland. Here's what is happening across France tonight....

    Lazio players celebrate

We're back under way at the Luigi Ferraris stadium. As you can see Lazio have a pretty good recent record against Sampdoria but the hosts probably shaded the first half. And veteran frontman Samuel Eto'o misses a golden chance early in the second period after being sent clear only to fire wide with just Etrit Berisha to beat.

  18. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:53 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

You're going to be sick of this being drummed into you (but I'm making no apologies),

PSG are 45 minutes away from winning the French title. Laurent Blanc's men need just a point from Montpellier for a ménage à trois of Ligue 1 trophies.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

This is remarkable. Hilton is still dishing out some choice words to PSG rival Javier Pastore as they disappear down the Stade de la Mosson tunnel for a half-time swig of water. Think the Montpellier defender needs to cool down...

  20. INJURY TIMEpublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 16 May 2015

    French Ligue 1

Brazilian defender Hilton pushes the face of Javier Pastore as he remonstrates with the Argentine, sparking a brief melee between both sets of players. Trying to nutmeg a defender?! The cheek. Bit of an overreaction from the Montpellier man, I'd suggest. Referee Fredy Fautrel reaches for his cards - and brandishes the yellow one in the direction of both Hilton and Pastore.
