"England have done OK. They obviously had that lapse of concentration which cost them a goal. But going forward they need to commit a few more bodies if they want to get an equaliser."

Not sure about best macs Al, it looks the plastic poncho is this season's must-have garment in Moncton.

France are building some late pressure at the end of the half. Ellen White heads one corner clear, before goalkeeper Karen Bardsley comes and claims cleanly.

"That Katie Chapman chance allows the England fans here to find their voices with 'Let's go England, let's go!' Rain still teeming down and almost everyone in their best macs. Fortunately, we are under cover!"

Curtis: Sweden v Nigeria last night was a cracker, it'd be hard to beat for entertainment. Great goal by France, England up against it.

Mrs Harry Kane: Well it's safe to say that England women are more exciting than the men's team.

Daniel Gravestock: Getting a bit scrappy from England, a term that is a tad too familiar when it comes to this country and football.

"As I said, France goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi is liable to an error. She is a former outfield player and if she is not involved, she wants to get involved.

"She came for a cross which she should not have done. That is to England's advantage who need to keep pumping balls into the box.

England get their first effort in on goal with Katie Chapman unable to exploit goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi's rush off her line to clear a cross.

    Her chip drifts tamely wide...

Ekara: The goal may actually force England to be positive. Showing France way too much respect.

Aessof: England just don't seem to want to keep the ball. They're inviting France to attack them. Again, hype, but no substance.

Liz Tray: We're doing OK, defending reasonably, but you just can't keep giving the ball away like that! France just look stronger.

    England are creaking.

Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley tries to impose her authority on her penalty area, but gets nowhere near a corner. A defender bail her out with a clearing header.

The danger is not over yet though. We get the first glimpse of Louisa Necib's skills as she dances past Claire Rafferty and fires just wide from the edge of the box.

They seek her here, they seek her there...

France goalscorer Eugenie Le Sommer has been roaming far and wide to find space. Very canny play to try to get away from England's pressing game.

France have had five shots on goal. England yet to register one.

"Karen Bardsley let in a long-range strike in England's 2011 World Cup opener against Mexico, but I don't think she could have done anything about that strike. England need to regroup."

Ian: Poor defending giving the ball away stupidly in a dangerous area. Clinically punished.

Rizpey: Well, all the "England are doing well" Didn't last so long did it?

Jon Freeman: I've been telling people how wonderfully positive women's football is, then England come out with a 5-5-0 formation.

Replays suggest that Karen Bardsley was unsighted by England defender Alex Scott as Eugenie Le Sommer pulled the trigger.

It would have been some save to keep it out in my opinion.

Anyway, France are fizzing with confidence after that opener, all little triangles and give-and-gos.

When does coach Mark Sampson call on the creative likes of Toni Duggan or Lianne Sanderson off the bench?

Lee Roberts: Great strike by Le Sommer however Bardsley should have done better there. I agree with Sue Smith.

"You have to be absolutely switched on for the entire game. England are trying to play in areas they don't need to play in, just get rid of the ball. Goalkeeper Karen Bardsley could have done a bit better."

"Frustrating. That has beaten goalkeeper Karen Bardsley at her near post. It was given away sloppily away and she could turn and get a shot away.

"Bardsley is her own biggest critic and will know she can do better than that. She is a world class goalkeeper and hopefully she can settle down."

    Pick that one out!

England's good and hard work goes down the gurgler in a moment of brilliance from Eugenie Le Sommer.

The France striker wallops a rising drive inside Karen Bardsley's near post from 20 yards after Katie Chapman lost the ball in midfield.

The goalkeeper got hands to it, but there was no keeping that out.
