Latest PostThank you and goodbye
Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa
And we will leave it there from Selhurst Park. Crystal Palace claim a win thanks to that dramatic late goal from Bakary Sako. The report is on the BBC website and you can follow all the reaction with our live text here.
Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa
Kevin Kilbane
Final Score
"Crystal Palace are worthy winners. They've been excellent in this second half. They would have been hard done by only getting a draw."
FULL-TIME - Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa
Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa
Into injury time at Selhurst Park.
GOAL - Bakary Sako (Crystal Palace)
Crystal Palace 2-1 Aston Villa
We may well have a winner. And it is a nightmare for left-back Jordan Amavi. He loses possession close to his own goal to Scott Dann, who sends the ball to Bakary Sako. The debutant arrows a fine finish into the bottom corner. And Palace lead again.
Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa
Four minutes left at Selhurst Park. Are we going to get a winner?
Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa
Kevin Kilbane
Final Score
"It's been all Crystal Palace but then after a great bit of skill from Adama Traore Aston Villa are level. It's an unfortunate own goal from Pape Souare."
GOAL - Pape Souare (own goal)
Crystal Palace 1-1 Aston Villa
Aston Villa equalise. It is a wonderful run from the substitute Adama Traore. He starts on the right wing and gets to the byeline before he pulls the ball back and it bounces off the unfortunate Pape Souare and into his own net.
Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa
GREAT SAVE!
Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa
Almost a second for the hosts. A great, jinking run from Bakary Sako before he unleashes a powerful shot at goal, which Brad Guzan acrobatically tips over the crossbar.
GOAL - Scott Dann (Crystal Palace)
Crystal Palace 1-0 Aston Villa
There is no doubt about this one. Jason Puncheon takes a left-wing corner and defender Scott Dann gets above his marker Ciaran Clark to power a header into the net. Full-back Jordan Amavi tried to clear the ball off the line, but the header had too much pace on it and Palace lead.
SUBSTITUTION
Nineteen-year-old Adama Traore, a £7m signing from Barcelona, comes on for Villa before another drinks stoppage.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Kevin Kilbane
Final Score
"James McArthur is offside... eventually - the goal was originally given. Dwight Gayle's shot is miles off target and I think McArthur looks just offside. There must have been at least minute between the goal being given and the referee changing his mind."
DISALLOWED GOAL - Crystal Palace
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Controversy at Selhurst Park. Dwight Gayle's shot on the turn bounces off James McArthur's chest and past Brad Guzan in the Aston Villa goal.
The players celebrate the goal and the stadium announcer says Palace have scored. But the referee chats with assistant Peter Kirkup, who says McArthur was standing in an offside position when the ball hit him.
CLOSE!
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
After Jack Grealish's effort is blocked for a corner, Aston Villa have another chance, but Rudy Gestede's free header misses the target. Not a day to remember so far for the big man.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Gestede's foul leads to a Palace free-kick 25 yards out. Yohan Cabaye tries to whip it over the wall, but Ciaran Clark then heads it away for a corner which Brad Guzan gathers comfortably.
YELLOW CARD
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
A high boot from Villa striker Rudy Gestede sees him become the next name to be taken by referee Keith Stroud. It is getting a bit lively.
CLOSE!
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Aston Villa's Leandro Bacuna goes for glory, but it is a selfish option with other players in the penalty area. Bacuna's shot goes wide and his team-mates are not impressed.
YELLOW CARD - Cabaye (Crystal Palace)
Yohan Cabaye is one of the most cultured players in the Premier League. He can certainly spot a pass. But his tackling is not the best. He hacks down Jack Grealish. And is booked.
GREAT SAVE!
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Those Crystal Palace substitutions make an instant impact as they create their side's best chance of the match. Dwight Gayle starts it off by releasing Jordon Mutch, whose right-wing cross finds Bakary Sako at the far post. But from a tight angle Sako cannot beat Brad Guzan.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
And we are back under way at Selhurst Park.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Alan Pardew was clearly not impressed with what he saw in the first half. And Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray have both come off. Jordon Mutch and Dwight Gayle, who recently rejected a move to Championship side Bristol City, come on.
Elsewhere in the Premier League
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Stats
So only three shots on target in the first 45 minutes. Don't worry. It will get better in the second half. Trust me.
Half-time analysis
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Steve Wilson
BBC Match of the Day commentator
"Brad Guzan has only had one shot to save, a dipper from Bakary Sako.
"To be honest with you, it has been a slow-burner. Aston Villa have done a little bit better than Crystal Palace. The best chance of the half by some distance fell to Gabriel Agbonlahor, whose shot was saved by Alex McCarthy."
HALF-TIME
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Another half-chance for Villa. Ashley Westwood sends in a hopeful-looking cross into the box and Rudy Gestede gets above his marker to meet the ball. But he cannot control the header as it goes well off target.
Tim Sherwood may be the happier of the two managers, but perhaps he is thinking he still needs another striker before the transfer window closes.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
But we have seen much worse 0-0s. At one end Bakary Sako fires a low attempt from 35 yards, but it is straight at Brad Guzan, before some tricky work from Aston Villa's Jack Grealish leads to Alex McCarthy tipping the ball over for a corner. You can probably guess that the corner is then wasted.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Now, I don't want to worry anyone but there have only been three goals in the last four meetings between the sides.
There is no sign of that being broken as Yohan Cabaye's free-kick is poor and headed well off target by a diving Glenn Murray, although he did well to make any contact with the ball.
There's been lots of energy and good build-up play, but both sides are showing the lack of quality in the final third that demonstrates why both sides probably won't be pushing for a European spot later this season.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Jack Grealish is making his first start of the season and sets up another Villa attack as he releases Gabriel Agbonlahor, whose pace is giving Joel Ward a torrid time.
But Agbonlahor's touch in the left-wing position is poor and the ball bounces away from him and the chance is lost.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Another opportunity for Palace, but it is a wild slash at the ball from Yohan Cabaye with it going well over the bar. But the best chance remains the one Gabriel Agbonlahor fluffed when he was one-on-one with Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.
Drinks break
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
We mentioned a drinks break was likely. And it has just happened. A quick chance to get some water on board on what is a hot and lovely day in south London.
CLOSE!
Ashley Westwood takes a quick free-kick, which catches the Palace defence off guard. But Villa cannot capitalise as Idrissa Gueye's 25-yard shot dribbles wide.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
A lovely move down the left wing from the hosts as Wilfried Zaha sends Glenn Murray away and the ball is then pulled back to the former Manchester United man.
But an excellent block from Ashley Westwood clears the danger as he shows why he has earned a new five-year deal at the club.

We mentioned that Alan Pardew has talked up Jason Puncheon's claims of playing for England. Not everyone agrees.
Harry Mahon: No way. Doesn't offer anything that we don't already have.
Chris:But players like Lambert and Cleverly get a shot? If he keeps performing he deserves a crack in my opinion.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
But the corner comes to nothing for Aston Villa.
YELLOW CARD - Ward (Crystal Palace)
Corner for Aston Villa after Pape Souare heads Jordan Amavi's cross behind. It came after Joel Ward had taken out Jack Grealish, an offence that earns the defender the first yellow card of the game.
GREAT SAVE!
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
And what a chance for Agbonlahor to net against Palace. He is one of the quickest players in the Premier League and he gets goalside of Joel Ward and the defender cannot keep up.
But with only the Palace goalkeeper to beat, Agbonlahor scuffs his shot and Alex McCarthy manages to block the attempt with his legs.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
CLOSE!
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
We mentioned Jason Puncheon has been talked of as a future England international. The midfielder has a good chance for Crystal Palace from the edge of the penalty area but can only drag his shot wide of the post.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Villa do manage to send a cross towards Rudy Gestede and the striker goes for the hugely optimistic overhead kick. And completely misses the ball. Don't worry, Rudy. We've all tried it. And failed.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
A lively start from both sides as Aston Villa's Gabriel Agbonlahor flicks on to Jack Grealish, who plays in Rudy Gestede but the striker, making his first start for the club, sees his effort blocked by Delaney.
Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Aston Villa in bright yellow get us under way. It is a very warm day in south London and we will have a heat break during the match. Pape Souare makes a burst down the left wing but the cross is disappointing and goes out for a goal kick.
A feisty clash?
Things might be a bit feisty today if this stat is anything to go by. Our referee today is Keith Stroud. He may be busy.
The teams are out
The players are out on the pitch as the Palace anthem 'Glad all over' blares out around the ground. As always, the home fans are in great voice and it is a wonderful atmosphere inside Selhurst Park.
It might not be the biggest stadium in the Premier League, but there are few better atmospheres.
Puncheon for England?
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 GMT)
There were some interesting comments from Palace manager Alan Pardew in the build-up. Is Roy Hodgson watching winger Jason Puncheon.
Pardew thinks he should be?
Work in progress
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 GMT)
Villa started with a 1-0 win at Bournemouth but then lost by the same scoreline last Friday at home against Manchester United.
A lot has happened since they last met
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 GMT)
These two sides last met on 1 January and it was Palace's last game before Alan Pardew took over. And what a job he has done. They were in the bottom three when he arrived, and ended up in their highest Premier League finish of tenth.
A win today and they could be inside the top three.
Premier League predictor
Can you do any better than Lawro? Well, now you have the chance to prove it. Have a go at our Premier League predictor and you can forecast today's result. But hurry, all predictions must be in before kick-off.
Lawro's prediction
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 GMT)
BBC Sport's football expert Mark Lawrenson has looked into his crystal ball and predicts a Crystal Palace win. He says: "I can understand why Palace were hacked off after their defeat by Arsenal - if Francis Coquelin had been sent off when he should have been then that would have changed the game.
"But that defeat means the Eagles have got a bit to prove. If they are going to be the team myself and a lot of other people think they will be and finish in the top half then this is a game they need to win.
"With Villa, the big question for most of last season was 'where is their next goal coming from?'. At the moment, it is 'when will Tim Sherwood know his best team?'. I fear finding the answer might take a little longer than this weekend."
Read all of Mark Lawrenson's Premier League predictions as he takes on comedian Jack Whitehall.
Villa hold the edge
Crystal Palace v Aston Villa (15:00 GMT)
Aston Villa beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park in December 2014, with Christian Benteke scoring the only goal of the game, before the two sides played out a goalless draw at Villa Park on New Year's Day.
Today's other Premier League matches
These are the rest of the 3pm kick-offs in the Premier League.
Gardner has a feeling
Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner, who misses out today through injury, writes on Twitter.
Although not playing today, it has been a good week for the 23-year-old as on Friday he agreed a new three-year contract with Villa.
