Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
Alan Pardew was clearly not impressed with what he saw in the first half. And Wilfried Zaha and Glenn Murray have both come off. Jordon Mutch and Dwight Gayle, who recently rejected a move to Championship side Bristol City, come on.
Quote Message“You can see there’s a lot of work and effort going into the game from Villa, but they’re just lacking a bit of quality. Palace carry a threat – they’ll trouble anybody with the pace they’ve got with their front four.”
Paul Franks - BBC WM 95.6 summariser at the game
So only three shots on target in the first 45 minutes. Don't worry. It will get better in the second half. Trust me.

"Brad Guzan has only had one shot to save, a dipper from Bakary Sako.
"To be honest with you, it has been a slow-burner. Aston Villa have done a little bit better than Crystal Palace. The best chance of the half by some distance fell to Gabriel Agbonlahor, whose shot was saved by Alex McCarthy."

Another half-chance for Villa. Ashley Westwood sends in a hopeful-looking cross into the box and Rudy Gestede gets above his marker to meet the ball. But he cannot control the header as it goes well off target.
Tim Sherwood may be the happier of the two managers, but perhaps he is thinking he still needs another striker before the transfer window closes.
But we have seen much worse 0-0s. At one end Bakary Sako fires a low attempt from 35 yards, but it is straight at Brad Guzan, before some tricky work from Aston Villa's Jack Grealish leads to Alex McCarthy tipping the ball over for a corner. You can probably guess that the corner is then wasted.
Now, I don't want to worry anyone but there have only been three goals in the last four meetings between the sides.
There is no sign of that being broken as Yohan Cabaye's free-kick is poor and headed well off target by a diving Glenn Murray, although he did well to make any contact with the ball.
There's been lots of energy and good build-up play, but both sides are showing the lack of quality in the final third that demonstrates why both sides probably won't be pushing for a European spot later this season.
Jack Grealish is making his first start of the season and sets up another Villa attack as he releases Gabriel Agbonlahor, whose pace is giving Joel Ward a torrid time.
But Agbonlahor's touch in the left-wing position is poor and the ball bounces away from him and the chance is lost.
Quote Message“Palace have been more of a threat than Villa when they’ve got the ball forward. They’ve got width with Bakary Sako and Wilfried Zaha trying to get forward at every opportunity – but the best chance of the half has gone to Gabriel Agbonlahor and he seriously fluffed his lines.”
Paul Franks, BBC WM 95.6 summariser at the game
Another opportunity for Palace, but it is a wild slash at the ball from Yohan Cabaye with it going well over the bar. But the best chance remains the one Gabriel Agbonlahor fluffed when he was one-on-one with Palace goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

We mentioned a drinks break was likely. And it has just happened. A quick chance to get some water on board on what is a hot and lovely day in south London.
Ashley Westwood takes a quick free-kick, which catches the Palace defence off guard. But Villa cannot capitalise as Idrissa Gueye's 25-yard shot dribbles wide.
A lovely move down the left wing from the hosts as Wilfried Zaha sends Glenn Murray away and the ball is then pulled back to the former Manchester United man.
But an excellent block from Ashley Westwood clears the danger as he shows why he has earned a new five-year deal at the club.
We mentioned that Alan Pardew has talked up Jason Puncheon's claims of playing for England. Not everyone agrees.
Harry Mahon:, external No way. Doesn't offer anything that we don't already have.
Chris:, externalBut players like Lambert and Cleverly get a shot? If he keeps performing he deserves a crack in my opinion.
But the corner comes to nothing for Aston Villa.
Corner for Aston Villa after Pape Souare heads Jordan Amavi's cross behind. It came after Joel Ward had taken out Jack Grealish, an offence that earns the defender the first yellow card of the game.

And what a chance for Agbonlahor to net against Palace. He is one of the quickest players in the Premier League and he gets goalside of Joel Ward and the defender cannot keep up.
But with only the Palace goalkeeper to beat, Agbonlahor scuffs his shot and Alex McCarthy manages to block the attempt with his legs.
