Plenty of jeers - aimed at referee Andre Marriner - as the full-time whistle goes. Arsenal ground it out without shining, 10-man Newcastle didn't have a shot on target.

"On the balance of play, Arsenal have probably deserved to win. It's three points, and the style of this performance will be forgotten about if Arsenal continue to improve. But do they have the out-and-out cutting edge to challenge for the title?"

    Bournemouth v Leicester (15:00 BST)

BBC Sport's Mark Mitchener at Vitality Stadium:  "The fans here at Bournemouth are still pinching themselves that their team is playing in the top flight for the first time in their 116-year history. But slowly, things have been clicking into place.

"The new season's replica shirt, which wasn't available in time for the opening day game here against Aston Villa, is flying off the racks in the club shop and being proudly worn around the ground - while that much-anticipated first Premier League goal and points came at West Ham last week. But how long will they have to wait for that first home goal?"

"Arsenal have created nearly 20 chances and only managed to score one - and that was because of a deflection. It has to be a concern."

Aston Villa v Sunderland (15:00 BST)

Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood revealed a sickness bug had affected his camp before today's visit of Sunderland - and it appears that Jack Grealish and Gabby Agbonlahor might be suffering. The pair drop out of the squad as Villa make two changes from the 2-1 defeat at Crystal Palace, right-back Alan Hutton and winger Scott Sinclair starting instead.

One change for Sunderland from their 1-1 home draw against Swansea - and it comes at the heart of their leaky defence. Summer signing Younes Kaboul returns in place of Sebastian Coates, while new signing Ola Toivonen must be content with a place on the bench.
