Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
A moment of calm at last. Newcastle need to regroup. They have had two booked, one sent off and got away with what looked like a blatant penalty.
This could be a long 65 minutes for the hosts...

"I think the referee is in danger of losing control of this game. Not every foul has to be a yellow card."
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
A quick look at the average positions of both teams shows how dominant Arsenal have been early on. Trouble for 10-man Newcastle.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
This is kicking off. Chancel Mbembe is the next Newcastle man to be shown yellow as he takes out the marauding Alexis Sanchez. The hosts need to calm down here.

"That is not a red card offence. He mistimes it, it's possibly a yellow card, but it's not particularly violent. Andre Marriner has had three big decisions to make so far and he's got all of them wrong."
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Newcastle's summer signing Aleksandar Mitrovic is off. The Serbian stamps down on Francis Coquelin as he stretches for the ball and horribly mistimes it.
He feels hard done by as he walks off but you can see why he had to go. Two yellows and a red in four matches for him.

Mathew Penistone : How can anyone deny that was a pen. As clean cut as you like. Ball under control, going to get it. Takes out the man.

"I think Bellerin gets trodden on. It doesn't have to be intentional. By the letter of the law, that should have been a penalty."
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Penalty shout for the Gunners - who are well on top. Hector Bellerin latches onto Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's pass and goes down in the penalty area with Florian Thauvin behind him.
The Frenchman stands on his heel and has got away with that. That is a penalty and Arsene Wenger is not happy.

"This is the first time in two years that Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have started an Arsenal game alongside each other."
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
First real chance of the game as Theo Walcott latches onto a nice volleyed pass from Hector Bellerin. He attempts to slide the ball under goalkeeper Tim Krul, whose body just about stops it.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Here come Newcastle. Florian Thauvin gets in down the right but his cross is deflected into the hands of goalkeeper Petr Cech. There was little in the penalty area for him to aim for anyway.

"Arsenal's biggest problem has been converting chances. If only they could finish as well as Mo Farah did!"
Farah has just won gold in the 5,000m at the World Athletics Championship.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
There is some noise around St James' at the moment. Every Newcastle tackle is met with a huge roar - but it is Arsenal looking the brighter early on.
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
Moussa Sissoko is booked for a naughty little stamp-like tackle on Nacho Monreal. Welcome back Moussa...
Newcastle 0-0 Arsenal
A lightning break from Arsenal as Alexis Sanchez sets Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain racing down the right. He tries a one-two with Aaron Ramsey inside the penalty area but the latter's touch is too heavy and chance gone. There is some pace in the Gunners side today.
