"Watford switch off - it's far too easy for Sagna to get the ball in. Sterling makes a great run across the near post and it's a very deft finish."

    Man City 1-0 Watford

This is the first time Watford have been behind this season. How will they react?

    Man City 1-0 Watford

City changed their shape at the break with David Silva going wide right and Samir Nasri on the left. Raheem Sterling was pushed up front in the middle alongside Sergio Aguero - fair to say the switch paid off.

We have picked up where we left off before half-time. City have the ball and all of Watford's players are behind it.

  7. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 16:00

    Man City 0-0 Watford

City are bringing on Samir Nasri for Jesus Navas for the second half. You can understand why - a case of more guile needed, less speed.

"Watford have dug in. They've made themselves difficult to score against, and Quique Flores will be delighted. But Manchester City are probing and probing and you just feel eventually they will break them down."

    Man City 0-0 Watford

Manchester City are getting plenty of men forward, Watford.... less so. As you can see by the average position of their touches.

Hornets striker Troy Deeney is their number nine, but is spending most of his time deep on the right of midfield.

There will be one minute of added time at the end of the first half. Watford have succeeded in their mission of killing the game, so far anyway...

  12. YELLOW CARDpublished at 44 min

    Man City 0-0 Watford

Watford right-back Allan-Romeo Nyom joins Vincent Kompany in the referee's book after clattering Raheem Sterling.

When play restarts, City come forward down the right and Jesus Navas lets fly with a shot that goes out for a throw. That sort of sums up the first half for the home team in front of goal.

    Man City 0-0 Watford

The pattern of this game has not changed - Watford frequently have 11 men behind the ball.

Their nominal lone striker, Troy Deeney, is helping his right-back Allan-Romeo Nyom out whenever City come forward down the left, tracking Aleksandar Kolarov's runs.

  14. YELLOW CARDpublished at 42 min

    Man City 0-0 Watford

City skipper Vincent Kompany is the first player to go in Mark Clattenburg's book, for a late lunge on Jose Manuel Jurado. Watford's free-kick from 40 yards out fails to beat the first defender though.

Sergio Aguero has been kept relatively quiet so far, but springs into life when the ball reaches him on the edge of the Watford area. He turns to fire in a stinging shot but Heurelho Gomes watches it zip wide of his left-hand post.

    Man City 0-0 Watford

In case you've just joined me, this game is all about City's attack vs Watford's defence... and the defence is on top at the moment.

The frustration continues for City - they have had 60% of possession, but have not been allowed to test Heurelho Gomes too often.

The Hornets have not really threatened much at the other end, but that is always going to be tough when your striker is operating in a similar area to a defensive midfield player.

Almen Abdi has just curled in a cross from deep out on the right, but it was an easy catch for City keeper Joe Hart.

Just to reiterate - Watford are well organised and their game plan is working at the moment. City just cannot find the right pass to break them down.

    Man City 0-0 Watford

City are keeping this spell of pressure up, but Watford have all their players back in their own half and behind the ball.

  20. GREAT SAVE!published at 26 min

    Man City 0-0 Watford

So far, so good for Watford.

City are finding a few cracks in the Hornets defence, though. Bacary Sagna brings a low save from Heurelho Gomes when a corner is not cleared and, soon after, Raheem Sterling brings another good stop from the keeper... with his low shot squeezing under the Brazilian who got just about enough on it to turn it the wrong side of the post. The ball trundled a couple of inches wide.
