  5. How Stoke have evolved under Hughespublished at 14:52

BBC Sport statistician Chris Collinson: "As Stoke established themselves in the Premier League under previous manager Tony Pulis, they developed a reputation for playing a style of football that relied on long balls and set-pieces.

"But looking at how the Potters performed last season, this reputation is no longer accurate. Under new boss Mark Hughes, they did not look to get the ball up the pitch as quickly as possible, and they score fewer goals from set-pieces.

"While they have kept the aggression fostered under Pulis, they are now also much more comfortable in possession, pass the ball more accurately and run at opposition defences more often.

"Most importantly for opposing teams, they now pose much more of a threat in open play than they did under Pulis."

West Brom start the game bottom of the Premier League. They don't want to be going into the international break propping up the table.

    Match of the Day commentator

One of Mark Hughes' many achievements since taking over from Tony Pulis at Stoke City is changing the general perception of the club.

However, the current Stoke boss would surely be the first to pay tribute to his predecessor for establishing them in the top division.

I was at Selhurst Park when Pulis, as Crystal Palace manager, first came up against the Potters. The Stoke fans gave him a magnificent reception, and I'm sure that will be the same again this Saturday.

Xherdan Shaqiri has already made a big impression at Stoke. Salomon Rondon is poised to do likewise with West Brom as both these teams look for their first league win of the season.

  10. No Walters for Stokepublished at 14:39

Stoke City  forward  Jon Walters, who does not make the 18, after saying he is dissatisfied with the Premier League club's latest contract offer.

The Potters rejected a £1.5m bid from fellow top-flight club Norwich City for the Republic of Ireland international.

After scoring at Luton to help Stoke reach the League Cup third round, Walters, 31, said the offer was not acceptable.

"In my eyes, if they valued me, it would be there but it's not," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

When Tony Pulis first took charge of Stoke City in 2002 they were in League One playing the likes of Grimsby Town and Wimbledon.

By the end of his second spell in charge in May 2013, Pulis had taken the Potters to the Premier League, the Europa League and reached the FA Cup final.

No wonder Stoke fans are ready to give the 57-year-old West Bromwich Albion boss a standing ovation on his first Britannia Stadium return.
