Bayern Munich are inches away from doubling their lead as Arjen Robben plays in a ball which Leverkusen keeper Bernd Leno comes flying out of his box to deal with - but his clearance is straight at Robert Lewandowski and the rebound goes just wide of the post - it looked like it was going in.

Karim Bellarabi now has another chance for the visitors but it's straight at Manuel Neuer. Coach Roger Schmidt will be very happy with this start.

Stefan Kiessling should probably level the scores - the Bayer Leverkusen forward is played in on goal but is shot from an angle is straight at keeper Manuel Neuer and his rebounded effort is cleared off the line by David Alaba.

Moments later Hakan Calhanoglu fires a shot wide from just outside the box. A very encouraging start to the second half from Leverkusen.

In case you missed it yesterday, Bayern have loaned Denmark midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, 20, to Schalke for the season.

Bayern sporting director Matthias Sammer said: “We're certain his future lies in Munich. But to develop further he needs immediate match practice which he will get at Schalke.

Peru striker Claudio Pizarro, who left Bayern this summer after two spells, was presented to the fans on the pitch before this game.

The 36-year-old, who has not signed for a new club yet, is the top scoring non-German in Bundesliga history.

"Maybe I could do something with FC Bayern after retiring," he told the club website. , external"Let’s wait and see. I’d like to keep playing for a bit first, and then the club and I might see what we can do."
