"Eddie Howe is a wonderful manager, if anyone can keep them up he can. If they go down it won't be because of him. It'll just be cruel luck."

Bournemouth have very happy memories of 25 October.

This time last year, they were sticking eight goals past Birmingham City and celebrating the biggest league victory in their history.

They'll take something similar today, I reckon.

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

    Jonathan Pearce
    BBC Sport

"My summer optimism for Bournemouth is falling with the autumn leaves.

"Injuries, most crucially to Callum Wilson, have devastated them. If they don't bounce back quickly from the mauling at Manchester City, confidence will corrode. They also need to atone for silly home dropped points against Villa and Watford.

"This shouldn't be the game to do it. After all, Spurs are unbeaten in the league since the opening day.

"But they have to overcome a European trip, while injuries to Chadli, Mason and Son have hit them too and they've been below par in the last three weeks. Tottenham shouldn't lose. But then again…"

The man that Mauricio Pochettino succeeded as Spurs manager has lost his job today.

Aston Villa have sacked Tim Sherwood after just eight months in the role.

Villa lost 2-1 to Swansea yesterday, and they're now bottom of the table following Sunderland's 3-0 win over Newcastle in today's early kick-off.

  7. 'Crystal Palace will finish above Spurs'published at 13:50

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

Tottenham are desperate to finish in the top four, but Chris Sutton thinks the Spurs fans are set to be disappointed.

“Tottenham will not finish in the top four," said Sutton on BBC Radio 5 live. "Are the supporters happy that they will probably finish seventh or eighth?

"They’re not good enough to be in the top four and aren’t at the level of Arsenal and Manchester City. I think Crystal Palace will finish above Spurs.”

Tottenham head coach Mauricio Pochettino: "Bournemouth are a good team, a very aggressive team, they run a lot [but] we need to start to win Premier League games to move up the table.

"I think we need to be focussed on our performance and the way we play, be aggressive and focus on every single minute.

"It's not important the opponent, it's important how we play on the pitch. We need to win."

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

Much has been made of Bournemouth's injury problems in the early weeks of the season, with striker Callum Wilson, winger Max Gradel and defender Tyrone Mings among those set to be out for long periods of the campaign.

Defender Tommy Elphick is also out after undergoing ankle surgery - he spoke to MOTD2 Extra before kick-off...

They're all big players for us, especially attacking wise. We've had to tinker a few things and change our approach a little bit. That's why you build a squad. The gaffer's big on everybody pulling in the right direction and now's the time where we're going to need to see that.

  11. 'I don't see how Bournemouth can survive'published at 13:42

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

Can Bournemouth stay in the Premier League this season? Ex-England international Jermaine Jenas says no.

“It was looking positive for Bournemouth at the start of the season but I don’t see how they can survive with that many injured with players out for the rest of the season," Jenas told BBC Radio 5 live.

"They will have to have some serious recruitment in January. It will come down to a bit of luck and some genius from Eddie Howe to keep them in the Premier League this season.

“Callum Wilson was offering so much and that was a massive blow to lose him.”

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe: "The defeat by Manchester City could be a good thing. You have to learn lessons and make sure you come out of it positively.

"I think the big thing coming out for us was to make sure we tighten up, the goals we conceded were disappointing.

"I've been pleased with our home form in terms of performances."

  13. Spurs stuttering?published at 13:37

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

It's been a mixed start to the season for Tottenham Hotspur.

A 2-1 defeat by Belgian club Anderlecht on Thursday left Spurs third in their Europa League group.

They've gone eight games unbeaten in the Premier League, a run that includes a 4-1 victory over Manchester City, yet they remain outside the top six.

Five out of their nine games have been drawn - more than any other side in the top flight.

  14. Can Bournemouth bounce back?published at 13:35

    Bournemouth v Tottenham (14:05 GMT)

If you follow a club that wins promotion to the Premier League, top-flight survival is your ultimate ambition the following season.

You look forward to the great away days. You even dream of the odd shock victory against one of the big boys. But the pessimist in you also expects the odd hammering along the way.

There's no disgrace in Bournemouth losing 5-1 at Manchester City. Many sides have done in the past, plenty more will in the future.

It's all about how you bounce back - as the old footballing mantra goes.
