We played against a very good team with players who are used to their manager and play a certain way and they did it very well. It was hard – probably too hard – for us to cope with them. The first 45 minutes was very poor but the second half was a little bit better, although we were already 3-0 down so Everton probably slowed down a little bit. We know that the mission is very difficult but nobody will let it go. The confidence in the team is low but I still think there is quality in the team."

    Swansea 2-2 Bournemouth

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC Sport: "We should be standing here with three points. We're disappointed but there were a lot of positives.

"(On Andre Ayew's penalty) He's induced the penalty but the referee has fallen for it.

"The players are beginning to believe in themselves a lot more, they know they have nothing to fear.

"I'm very proud to be Bournemouth manager tonight. there's a lot of stuff to look forward to in the future on the back of that."

"You talk about world class players, Sergio Aguero is certainly that. He had hardly had a touch until now, but now turns a man and curls the ball into the corner.

"Confidence comes with goals. Now there is a little bit of a spark."

Swansea manager Garry Monk, speaking to BBC Sport: "To be 0-2 down, the players showed great bravery and fantastic spirit to get back.

"You could feel that tension, it affected us with the ball and our confidence. We need to build that side of it by putting a run of results together,

"This is a point gained and a result to put us on the road to getting our confidence. Overall we have to be happy with a point."

Ben Jeffery: Again proves that without Vincent Kompany, Manchester City fall apart at the back.

Shaun Fleckney: I don't care how tired they are, you have to start Fernandinho, Otamendi and Zabaleta against Liverpool.

George Smith: Doubt Firminio is missing the Rodgers era much.

Former Manchester City defender Paul Lake

"Rabbit caught in headlights time. There is no leadership in the back four at all and the fans are stunned. It was an inventive backheel from Emre Can and a great run by Roberto Firmino, but the Manchester City players were just looking at each other.

"If they aren't careful, this could become a huge embarrassment."

  11. 'Worst display of the season'published at 18:01

    Newcastle 0-3 Leicester

Newcastle head coach Steve McClaren: “That was the worst performance we have had this season and it is very disappointing. I understand the frustration of the fans and we will get back on the training field on Monday to get consistency back in our results. That was nowhere near good enough.

“I can give nothing but praise to Leicester. That is as good a team performance against us. They were hardworking, pressed and we couldn’t handle the intensity. On the counter, they are very quick and sharp.

“Today is an opportunity we haven’t taken. There is still a long way to go before we get any consistency.”

Rafael Benitez's first El Clasico as manager of Real Madrid is turning into a disaster. Neymar doubles the lead in a game that is becoming increasingly tetchy. Real players claim Neymar is off side when he fires home from angle inside the area but the referee gives it.

    West Brom 2-1 Arsenal

West Brom manager Tony Pulis, speaking to BBC Sport: "It’s such an important win, Arsenal are an exceptional side, at times we were fortunate but the hard work and determination of the lads - we got beat here the last couple of games without deserving to - there are such small margins and it’s dropped our side today.

"This is a difficult job, as difficult as I have had for lots of reasons that I don’t want to go into now, but we need time to turn things around. If we don’t get results we won't get that time. We needed to get our home form going and to do that against one of the top sides in the league was fantastic."

Diego Costa missed two big chances in the first half and if he did not score it would be a big 50 kilo on his back but he scored and he could breathe easy. If the result is fake, it is fake because we should have scored more goals. I have two big games to watch - Real Madrid-Barcelona and the Portuguese Cup so I think a good meal in front of the television."

    Chelsea 1-0 Norwich

Norwich City boss Alex Neil: "I am disappointed. I thought our players worked really hard, I felt we gave Chelsea very little and we worked really hard.

"We put some fresh legs on as the game went on, and tried to create problems. Arguably we could have done more but I am happy with my players.

"We've done it at Liverpool, at Manchester City and here - gone to the so-called bigger clubs and put on a show. It is just disappointing we had that one lapse of concentration."

Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri: “I am very proud because the players played like a team. They played good football and the fans who came here enjoyed it. I want to thank the fans and the players for making a fantastic performance.

“We must continue this. Now arrive the big teams and we can only play and see what happens. It is good for Jamie Vardy and everybody. He is very confident and the team-mates believe something can happen when he gets the ball.

“I also had Gabriel Batistuta score in 11 consecutive matches, but Jamie came from the non-league and he looks very confident. When a team wins and plays well, the manager is always happy."
