    Southampton 0-1 Stoke

Stoke manager Mark Hughes: "I think in terms of clear-cut chances we were miles ahead of Southampton. I don't think Jack Butland had a save to make and that's illustrative of how well we played - and we broke with real purpose too.

"Southampton are a good team but we coped with everything they have to offer and didn't allow them to show any quality.

"We're delighted - it's an important win for us. We could have finished off more of our chances but overall it was a good performance from us."

Me and the fans didn't deserve to have our heart in our hands in the last four minutes. It is the pressure of the bad results, that is normal, but they coped well. The only thing we didn't do was score more from the chances we had. We should have scored at least two and breathe easier but it is difficult for us to score goals and to keep a clean sheet against a team who plays defensively."

We did give everything until the end. Maybe we were a bit too sure of ourselves. Overall it was a bad day. We scored an own goal, missed a penalty and missed a lot of chances. It is very disappointing."

    Southampton 0-1 Stoke

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman: "It was not good enough in the first half. In the second half, we played better, it was a good reaction, but I have to recognise that best chances in the game fell to Stoke.

"We created some good chances but they were dangerous on the counter-attack. They had a very good organisation in defence and you have to have very good quality on the last pass, the last cross, and we didn't bring that."

We knew from the start that Aston Villa would get men behind the ball but we showed good patience, defended really well and scored four goals from open play. We showed how good a team we are. I have taken my form from the internationals into this game and I’m buzzing with my goals. I’m enjoying the best football of my career and to get two goals was a bonus.”

"To keep players like Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling you have to be playing in the Champions League. While Liverpool are improving under Jurgen Klopp they are still a way away from that.

"As for Daniel Sturridge, his fitness is a bigger If than Rudyard Kipling's., external Everyone knows he has got ability but sometimes you wonder if it is just a physical problem, because he is injured so so often."
