Great stuff again from the visitors as they patiently carve a way through down the right, Adam Lallana makes the break into the penalty area but the flag is raised against him. Liverpool as impressive as City are sloppy in these opening stages.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is urging his players forward and he wheeled around in frustration towards his backroom team when Nathaniel Clyne delivered a dreadful cross after they had caught Manchester City on the break.

It's been a busy and energetic start from Liverpool and they are not giving City any time to settle into a rhythm.

    Eliaquim Mangala (OG 7 mins)

Gegenpressing at its best! Bacary Sagna has the ball at the right-back position, no danger, but he is closed down and loses the ball. Liverpool swiftly move into the box, Roberto Firmino puts in a low cross and Eliaquim Mangala can't sort his feet out and puts it into his own net. Djimi Traore style...

    Man City 0-0 Liverpool

Joe Hart hares off his line to intercept a through ball, putting it out for a throw. Liverpool could have caught him out of position but they are slow to get the ball back in play. Dean Saunders would have scored from there!

Liverpool then put together a neat passing move, sending Emre Can in on goal but the offside flag was up.

  12. 'Sterling needs more time'published at 17:29 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2015

Man City v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

Former England keeper Paul Robinson on 5 live Sport: “I think Sterling has done well, but he will need time because it was a big move for him and came with a lot of pressure. The whole move was a complete mess from start to finish. It was a long, drawn-out saga

“We all knew he was going to go, but the agent’s behaviour, for me, wasn’t called for. There are ways of conducting your business and they didn’t do it. I think Sterling is a young man who was badly advised.

“I still think a lot more to come from him as a player."

    Mark Lawrenson
Former Liverpool defender on Football Focus

"To keep players like Luis Suarez and Raheem Sterling you have to be playing in the Champions League. While Liverpool are improving under Jurgen Klopp they are still a way away from that.

"As for Daniel Sturridge, his fitness is a bigger If than Rudyard Kipling's., external Everyone knows he has got ability but sometimes you wonder if it is just a physical problem, because he is injured so so often."

  17. 'De Bruyne had more visual impact'published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 21 November 2015

Man City v Liverpool (17:30 GMT)

Raheem Sterling has made a strong start to life at Manchester City, despite being slightly overshadowed by Kevin De Bruyne, says Times journalist Rory Smith.

“De Bruyne had more immediate visual impact, but Sterling has played well in flashes," Smith told 5 live Sport. "He has not strung six or seven matches together of his absolute best.

"Streaky is harsh but he does tend to flit in and out of games a little bit. But he’s in the right team to get the best out of him. He’s so versatile and can damage teams. There is more to come.”

    Danny Mills
    BBC Radio 5 live

“It’s one of those games where Raheem Sterling is either going to be unbelievable or dismal, I can’t see him having an average game.

“He will either come back and haunt Liverpool the crowd,  the pressure will get to him. I don’t think he has lived up to expectation yet.

“For the price tag, he has I would be expecting more from him."
