    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Oh, Nabil Ghilas, there is your chance son. Levante's first real chance comes to the forward after a break that sees him fed in by partner Roger Marti, but after cutting inside his marker he gets over-excited and slices his shot into the stand from 12 yards out.

He won't get many better chances than that this evening.

Soon after, down the other end, Munir is in but Ruben is out quickly to block.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Levante will be happy with this. Barca have had their moments, but they certainly haven't swarmed over the away side.

Maybe we shouldn't be surprised. Luis Enrique's team haven't scored a La Liga goal in the first half of a game this season.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Neymar wastes the best opening of the game as Lionel Messi finds space and charges forward before setting up his Brazilian team-mate for an angled shot in the box that he pulls across the front of goal.

The camera makes a timely cut to Luis Suarez on the bench. I suspect he would have buried that.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Levante have a spell of 30 seconds in the Barca half. It includes a cross into the box for Nabil Ghilas that is easily cleared. Still, it is progress for the away side.

Lionel Messi has the Levante keeper working again, with a free-kick from the edge of the box that the Barca forward curls just a yard over the bar.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Oh, almost the opening goal from Lionel Messi. He skips past a player as if he isn't there on the edge of the box but mis-hits his shot before the ball comes back to him but his follow-up flick lands in the hands of keeper Ruben.

It would be very unwise for Levante to keep allowing Messi two bites of the cherry.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Barca happy to be patient so far, moving the ball around and probing for an opening. The final ball has just fallen short of the required standard, though.

Levante's discipline has enabled them to survive 15 minutes relatively unscathed. Just the 75 more minutes to go.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Poor Nabil Ghilas has a thankless task on his hands tonight, leading the line for Levante. On the basis of the aimless balls that have been lumped in his direction so far, his 'lost causes' folder is going to be jam-packed come 9pm.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Sandro - on his first start for Barca - wins the first corner of the game.

It is initially cleared but the home side come again and Angel Trujillo has to hack the ball away to prevent Neymar getting in.

Soon after, Lionel Messi's pull-back from the byline skips just in front of Munir, who had the goal at his mercy.

    Barcelona 0-0 Levante

Immediately, we are into the expected pattern of Barca dominating possession and the Levante players chasing the ball.

Lionel Messi looks to be playing behind the forward line, picking up the ball deep on the right-hand side. His cross is claimed by the Levante keeper ahead of the intended target; Neymar.

Wins for the Madrid twins yesterday make it important for Barcelona to win tonight. Real claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Granada, while Atletico were 2-0 victors at Eibar.

Barcelona will leapfrog both - as well as Celta Vigo, who won 2-1 at Sevilla earlier to go third - by picking up the three points against Levante.

Damo:  The FM player in me says Munir with 2 goals but in reality it will probably be a Messi hat-trick.

Max Baggins-Craig:  Barca won both matches comfortably, but am expecting a Levante revenge. Sure Messi was quiet mid-week, but he was just tired.

    Barcelona v Levante (19:30 BST)

It hasn't all been plain sailing for Barcelona this season. They were denied victory in their first Champions League group stage game on Wednesday.

Everything looked to be going according to plan when Luis Suarez gave them the lead at Roma but Alessandro Florenzi's 60-yard (yes, 60-yard) strike meant the Italian side claimed a draw.

  18. Messi at number 10?published at 19:13

    Barcelona v Levante (19:30 BST)

Interesting team news from Barca then. It looks like Lionel Messi will operate in a number 10 role behind Sandro .

Right-back Dani Alves is back after a groin strain, while  Gerard Pique is suspended so Marc Bartra starts.

Luis Suarez is on the bench.

It is likely to be a five-man defence for Levante . Although that could well become more to try and hold off the Barca attack.

Tonight's victims... sorry, opponents are Levante, who are winless this season, although they have drawn their last two - against Las Palmas and Sevilla.

Last season they were on the receiving end of two 5-0 drubbings by Barca, with Lionel Messi bagging a hat-trick and Luis Suarez and Neymar a goal each at the Nou Camp.

However, on a weekend when Japan beat South Africa at rugby and West Ham won at Manchester City, it would be foolish to completely write off Les Granotes.
