"Plenty of people still outside but, with less than five minutes until kick-off, it looks like there will be a fair few empty seats at Etihad Stadium tonight. It still looks like being a noisy night, though - tickets cost just £1 for under-16s to sit in the South Stand and there is definitely a youthful clientele, currently making a racket with their giant fans, which open up to display the message 'come on City!'."

Great turnout from both sets of supporters with a sellout crowd thanks to reduced prices and half term for the youngsters.

  8. History lesson for Klopppublished at 19:40

    Liverpool v Bournemouth (19:45 GMT)

Liverpool mitts have been plastered over the unusual three-handled League Cup more times than any other club.

The Reds have lifted the trophy on eight occasions, while the Cherries only reached the quarter-finals for the first time last season. Who beat them? Liverpool. But the Reds were beaten in the semi-finals by eventual winners Chelsea.

"I have heard about our history in this competition of course - it means everything," says Reds boss Jurgen Klopp. "So I know what we have to do. We have to play the game, give our all and try to win this game."

  9. Survival modepublished at 19:38

    Liverpool v Bournemouth (19:45 GMT)

Bournemouth are making no bones about it - Premier League survival is all that matters to them.

The Cherries have made full use of their squad in the League Cup this season, fielding an entirely different starting XI in their opening tie against Hartlepool and making nine changes for the shootout win at Preston.

But they do not have that luxury tonight with several players out with long-term injuries.

“If we can go to Anfield and put in a good performance then of course it will give us huge confidence," says Cherries assistant manager Jason Tindall.

"It could be the catalyst to getting us back performing well and winning in the Premier League.”

  10. Cherries must defend better - Howepublished at 19:36

    Liverpool v Bournemouth (19:45 GMT)

Bournemouth have conceded 10 (ten!) goals in their past two Premier League matches, but manager Eddie Howe reckons those defensive horror shows will not be playing on his team's mind.

"They are isolated games and they have gone as far as we're concerned," he tells Sky Sports. "We have changed the team around, mostly enforced due to injuries and players being cup-tied.

"Harry Arter's return is a huge boost for everybody, he was a huge player for us last season - the heartbeat of our side. It gives everyone a lift.

"We want to make a fast start, be aggressive with the ball, but we do have to defend better than we have in the last few games."

  11. Quarter-final drawpublished at 19:34

If your team is still in the League Cup you'll be pleased to know that the draw for the last eight will be made tonight, stay tuned after the game and we'll let you know who plays who, and when...

Seems the travel woe is not confined to Manchester tonight...

Been delayed 6 hours on our coach to Liverpool and going to miss the game - so more looking forward to the quarters by which time we should have made it to Anfield.

    Ben, London

This cup is a complete irrelevance to any team playing in European competitions. The FA could give the cup so much more credibility if it excluded those clubs playing in Europe and left it to those clubs that actually care about winning it.

"We have injured players but have enough fit players," Klopp tells Sky Sports. "We have to fill up with our young players, but they have impressed me.

"It is cool what they have done in training. They all have to improve but they are strong enough to do it tonight."

Jurgen Klopp has changed out of his suit into comfy training gear, and is stood on the slick Anfield grass to cast a beady eye over his players. The Reds boss stands motionless, watching his much-changed side go through their final warm-ups, before sticking a fatherly arm around the shoulder of young Cameron Brannagan. And earlier he talked about the faith he has in Brannagan and Connor Randall, another Academy graduate.

We've heard of having a bad day in the office - but National League club Woking have really had one - and have made their entire playing squad available for loan moves.

Manager Garry Hill informed his players of the decision following Saturday's FA Cup fourth qualifying-round 3-0 defeat by Maidenhead United.

"Garry addressed all of the players and told them exactly where they stand," chairman Mike Smith told BBC Surrey.

"Saturday's performance fell far, far below what Garry deserves and what the football club deserves."

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund, second in the Bundesliga, are in German Cup action against Paderborn. That match kicked off at 18:00 GMT. The score is 5-1.

Their Gabon forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang - on the bench today - has told BBC World Service that when he leaves Germany his next stop will be La Liga, not the Premier League.

He is currently the joint top scorer in the Bundesliga with 13 goals.

"I think maybe one day yes I'll leave to play in another league because my dream is to play in Spain," said the 26-year-old.

"But for the moment I'm 100% concentrated on Dortmund. That's how I've always operated. During a season I don't think about things like that. It's my dad who receives phone calls from other clubs and all that stuff."
