  3. Cesc not so Fab - Townsendpublished at 18:29 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2015

    Chelsea 0-0 Bournemouth

That little blunder by Cesc Fabregas at the end of the half was perhaps symptomatic of his season.

“My feeling with Fabregas is that his game suffers when the other components of the team aren’t working," former Blues midfielder Andy Townsend told 5 live Sport on Friday.

"If Eden Hazard is at his absolute best, if Diego Costa is taking those half chances, if Pedro hits the ground running, then I think Fabregas’s assists, his supporting role, will always come through and be noteworthy.

“Without those components at their very best, he doesn’t have the physical aspect to his game. He is a marvellous player with the ball at his feet, but against the very best opposition he is easily picked off.”

"Bournemouth will be full of heart and absolutely encouraged by that half. Chelsea have not not done much to hurt Bournemouth, who should be happy."

    Chelsea 0-0 Bournemouth

Chelsea are funny. They have wingers on the pitch, like Pedro, but quite often when they reach the Cherries' box their play tends to narrow, as the average positions would suggest. Bournemouth attacking with a lot more width.

Our friends from Opta tell us that Bournemouth have had nine shots (including blocked efforts) in the first half, their joint-highest in the first half of an away game this season. They also achieved this at West Ham in August.

Some serious dissent brewing among Chelsea fans in Bristol. Is it time for the bib-thrower?

Tom in Bristol: Personally I'm pleased to see Costa on the bench. He needs discipline and lots of it, good decision Mourinho!

Matt in Bristol: Jose needs to smell the coffee and get Costa on here.

Rich, Bristol:  So glad Costa has been benched. Chelsea are finally waking up to how much of a filthy player he is.

That's it for the half. Well played Bournemouth. Chelsea with work to do.

Chelsea building and building on the edge of the Bournemouth penalty area. It's Willian, then Pedro, then Cesc Fabregas. Ah. The Spaniard passes the ball out of play for some reason. Home fans not impressed.

Pedro is starting to see more of the ball down the Chelsea left but Bournemouth's defence gang up on the former Barcelona winger and clear the ball. Good pressure.

Into first half stoppage time and we will have three extra minutes. Time for a breakthrough?

Joshua King is getting more treatment. Might have something to do with the bang in the face he received from Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma earlier on (see 21 mins).

Evenly poised, but Chelsea coming back into it now. Bournemouth have had nine shots to Chelsea's eight. Oscar twice goes close, the latter occasion after being played in by Pedro but again Artur Boruc is equal to it.

Chelsea give the ball away in their own half and allow Josh King a chance to shoot but he is way over. Moments later, Pedro cuts into the box and curls a shot towards the far post but Artur Buruc palms it away. We are getting closer.

Chelsea probe again and win a free-kick. Willian delivers and after it's headed away Artur Boruc comes to collect the cross from the right. Just a little bit of quality missing in each box from the forwards so far.

  17. GOOD SAVE!published at 35 mins

    Chelsea 0-0 Bournemouth

Good effort from Chelsea, as Pedro slings the ball out wide to Eden Hazard and his stinging shot is palmed away by Artur Boruc. Straight away Bournemouth respond as Thibaut Courtois saves Josh King's effort with his legs. Bubbling nicely.

This game reminds me a little of the opener between Swansea and Chelsea, which ended up being a 2-2 draw. Depends if Bournemouth can take their chances. Oh and Thibaut Courtois staying on the pitch after being sent off that day.

"Willian is very difficult when he is on the ball, invariably he does a trick or two and then gets a cross in quickly. He does not waste time."
