Norwich started brightly but it already looks a long afternoon for the Canaries. Everton are far too comfortable and look the more likely to score.

Former Southampton and Stoke City defender Danny Higginbotham, in his Independent newspaper column, external: "Roberto Martinez is deploying Gerard Deulofeu in a very wide role on the Everton right, telling him to get that touchline white paint on his boots and to stay out there. 

"By hugging that flank and proving his ability to deliver crosses and passes with unerring accuracy, he is causing distinct problems for opposition sides.

"In the meantime Everton are eighth in the form table, taking on Norwich City – a lowly 18th in those particular rankings – and they have every reason to consider Europe within their grasp."

Another huge chance for Everton. Arouna Kone is clean through but Declan Rudd is quick off his line to block. That's a vital stop by the Norwich keeper. The hosts are struggling.

This Romelu Lukaku-Gerard Deulofeu partnership is paying off for Everton. It was a terrific delivery by Deulofeu, Lukaku could not miss.

There's been a lot of early play down Norwich's right wing so far.

First sight of goal for Romelu Lukaku just inside the Norwich area but the in-form striker drags his effort wide. 

Norwich boss Alex Neil will be encouraged by this start. It's high-tempo stuff from the hosts. Nathan Redmond cuts in from the right but his effort goes over the crossbar before Alexander Tettey fires over from distance.

With John Stones, Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu and Ross Barkley, if Everton can keep hold of them and they grow, then they have a real chance of becoming a very good team indeed. 

And with Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman at full-back, is there a better pair in the country?

Norwich have responded well. Decent from Cameron Jerome and Wes Hoolahan who are causing early problems and stretching the Toffees defence. Bright stuff from the struggling Canaries.

Good news for Everton. John Stones does not appear to be hampered by that problem he suffered in the warm-up. An early touch for the Toffees defender and he deals with it.
