Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "We only had 72 hours to recover [from the 3-1 league win over Southampton] so it was a very good answer from all the squad.

"The most important thing is to be involved in all the competitions at this stage. We were very solid and we didn't allow chances for Hull to score."

  4. 'Two goals were expectional'published at 21:56

Everton manager Roberto Martinez on Sky Sports: "It was a fantastic occasion, to be involved in the cup. We had to be mature and control the game and we did that really well, especially after the Bournemouth result. It showed we learnt a lot.

"It is a terrific feeling to get through to the semi-final and good memory for our football club.

"Middlesbrough had a team who are good on the ball but we defended really well. All in all, the two goals were exceptional pieces of quality. More than anything, after keeping a clean sheet from going 2-0 up was very pleasing."

    Consolation.

Game over but something for Hull full-back Andrew Robertson to remember.

It's sublime. He collects the ball in his own half before scampering up the pitch ala Mo Farah, exchanging passes with a team-mate, finding himself in the Man City area and dinking a finish past Willy Caballero.

All too late though and City were caught napping.
