Forest have been very disciplined. I never thought they had that in their locker, but they've done well. Derby have lacked creativity in and around the 18-yard box.

Nottingham Forest survive two minutes of injury time to take a 1-0 half-time lead. Derby have had the bulk of possession. Forest have had the better chances. Perfectly set up.

  4. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 45 mins

Jamie Ward could easily have gone into the book there for a little grab of Bradley Jonson's shirt as the Rams man broke from midfield. It would be a big surprise if Ward doesn't have his name taken at some point. He's always involved and a real pest of player.

A minute plus injury time to go until the break.

  5. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 41 mins

Scott Carson suddenly thinks he's a winger as he deals with a backpass badly and nearly gifts a goal to Jamie Ward.

The Derby man cannot find the net with a tough chance out wide as Carson scampers back towards his goal and the danger is cleared.

Derby's back four is far too deep. They need to press up and help out the midfield - they're giving Forest way too much room.

  7. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 39 mins

Derby seemed to have had a decent claim for penalty for a free-kick a few moments ago. The replays show Richard Keogh being tugged back by Matt Mills. Difficult for referee Simon Hooper to spot.

Bradley Johnson then shoots well over with a first-time effort after another decent spell. Derby are playing well enough but not creating clear opportunities.

Nottingham Forest are still happy to play on the counter and they are looking increasingly secure at the back. No need to over-commit after that early goal, but they are breaking in numbers when they get the chance and former Rams man Jamie Ward is a constant threat.

It would be interesting to see what he does if he scores. He was pretty outspoken about Forest when he was a Derby player.

  9. YELLOW CARD (Vaughan)published at 33 mins

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derby

David Vaughan gets a booking, sliding in on Johnny Russell and causing the Derby winger to hit the deck and roll around in agony for a few seconds.

  10. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 30 mins

Derby's Johnny Rusell has a fairly regulation strike on goal saved at the other end. Had Dorus de Vries let that in, it would have been a goal for the calamity collection. Straight at him and pretty tame.

Matt Mills heads in direct from a corner, but the referee had blown up for some tugging in the box. Bradley Johnson and Forest's Jack Hobbs were the men involved. The whistle went before the Forest's man header hit the net - but I doubt it would have been saved.

That's what Henri Lansbury has got in his locker. Derby have got to close down better. Forest have had plenty of ball around their penalty area - and Derby just aren't getting close enough.

  13. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derby

Henri Lansbury shifts the ball on to his right foot and smashes a glorious effort just wide of Scott Carson's far post. Great strike. Forest are looking ever so bright on the break.

  14. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derby

Jeff Hendrick grazes the top of Forest's bar with a stunning curling effort from the edge of the box. Keeper Dorus de Vries wasn't sniffing that.

  15. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 18 mins

A teasing cross from Stephen Warnock could so easily have led to an equaliser for Derby. He's always had a sweet left foot and nearly found the head of Chris Martin with that delightful centre. Jack Hobbs did well to make sure the striker was unable to get on the end of it.

Breathless stuff so far at the City Ground. Forest were in danger of having to ask for another ball to play with after taking the lead. Whether that was purely tactical to invite the pressure and play on he break is not clear.

But whatever way, it nearly worked with Ward so close to doubling the lead. It would have been interesting to see how the former Rams man would have celebrated that.

  17. GREAT SAVE!published at 12 mins

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derby

A magnificent save from Derby keeper Scott Carson denies Jamie Ward a fine curler after a swift break on the right. Brilliant fingertip save to stop Forest going 2-0 up.

  18. Nottingham Forest 1-0 Derbypublished at 8 mins

Forest have barely had a kick since their early goal but no chances yet. Cyrus Christie has a shot blocked after storming forward from right-back after a long spell of pressure - but no clear sight of goal yet.

We said Derby needed to start well - but now they have got it all to do. It was a silly mistake from Chris Martin, trying to speed up the play, that led to the goal.

Brilliant start for Nottingham Forest, who have had most of the ball and now have the lead. Nelson Oliveria controls his shot superbly and finds the bottom corner from the edge of the box at the second attempt.
