Watford manager Quique Flores, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think we had the possibility to win but Chelsea played really well. They pushed us a lot and were probably closer to the win than us. We defended well, we fought a lot in the 90 minutes, and for us this is a very important point. It was very tough to play against Chelsea but I’m very happy with the players."

"On whether Diego Costa was offside when scoring: “I don’t know, it is very quick, probably if you say it is offside maybe it is offside, but anyway I think the result is fair. 

"I think the team has enough confidence for the future, it’s amazing for the story of Watford.

"Playing two games in three games is a new experience for me, but most important is the players. We will have a good recovery and in two days, again."

Kompany has a calf injury

Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini: “I don’t think the score reflected the difference between the two teams. I am happy that the performance was very good, we played attacking football, and I am happy with the individual performances. The only pity was Vincent Kompany’s injury.

“The team performance was the most important. I saw we were returning to our normal performance as a team. It is important to continue. We have just finished the first round of fixtures.

“Next we have to play against Leicester. Nobody wins the title in December, but it doesn’t mean it will be easy to beat Leicester. In the second half of the season we have to play teams around us. It is important to try to continue with this kind of performance.”

On Vincent Kompany's injury: “Yes, it is a calf. Nobody understands. He had a good warm up, he was working during the week with normality. It is difficult to understand. The most important thing is to understand why this happens. That is the most important to focus on now."

'You don't associate 0-0 with us'

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe: "It’s not a scoreline you’d associate with us. It was a tough, tight game between two teams in form. 

"Both defences played very well. Both sides worked hard. We had the best chances – we're disappointed not to have worked their keeper more. 

"There’s been no tweak with how we’re playing – expansive football. 

“We don’t have the biggest squad so we’ll have to manage the players well and maybe tweak things around.”

"We have to move on, we have got another big game in three days. We don't like to lose and that hurt us but I think we will turn it into a positive.

Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic, speaking to Sky Sports: "We wanted to win today. It’s not a good result for us, we are sad, we wanted three points. But this is football and you never know what will happen. 

"We had a penalty which we didn't score, we were unlucky. Oscar has to keep his head up because these things can happen. I’m sure he will score the next one.

"Manchester United [who Chelsea play on Monday] are always very difficult and in three days we are playing two games. We have to cope with that but we will be ready I am sure."

Liverpool striker Christian Benteke: "We deserved to get the three points. 

"The last few weeks were hard for us. We didn't get the results we wanted but today we showed great character. 

"We have a big squad, I have to be patient until the manager needs me. I spoke with him a few days ago and he explained what he wanted from me and I tried to do it on the pitch. 

"We have to keep going and work hard. This league this year is really strong and we have to work hard to reach our goal."

Third-placed Gillingham ended Swindon's four-game winning run with a 3-1 victory at the County Ground.

In League Two, Plymouth stay top thanks to a 1-0 win over lowly Yeovil, who are 15 without a win, as Oxford go second by beating Exeter 3-0.

Manager-less Luton lost 2-0 at home to Wycombe, while Portsmouth's eight-game unbeaten run is ended with a 3-2 defeat at Leyton Orient.
