  1. CLOSE!published at 39 mins

    Stoke 0-1 Liverpool

We have chances at both ends as Marko Arnautovic heads wide when well placed and Roberto Firmino affords Ryan Shawcross just enough time to nick the ball clear for a corner as the trigger was about to be pulled from 18 yards.

That goal has been typical of the half. When Stoke have given the ball away, Liverpool have been excellent.

    Who needs central defenders?

Liverpool respond to some adversity in perfect fashion and it's a slick team goal polished with a little good fortune.

James Milner releases Adam Lallana down the right and his cut-back is completely miscued by Joe Allen into the path of Jordon Ibe.

The youngster takes a touch and bingo, low past Jack Butland from eight yards.

    Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

James Milner on for Dejan Lovren but the headline news is Liverpool now have a central defensive pair of Kolo Toure and Lucas. Stoke must think it's still Christmas.

Pace wise, I'd say they'd struggle to out run a seal.

Liverpool physio Chris Morgan tapes Dejan Lovren up and tries to stretch his hamstring. The defender hobbles off but looks like he wants more of the action does he? No... James Milner will be coming on.

It looks like Dejan Lovren will become the latest Liverpool player to join their rapidly-growing injury list. He's sat down in the area and looks distraught.

If you're just joining us, Philippe Coutinho has already hobbled off with a hamstring issue.

    Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

Marko Arnautovic wants a free-kick in midfield but gets nothing, still Stoke have the ball, can they inject some pace? They can and Glen Johnson delivers for Arnautovic who cannot quite bring the ball under his spell in the area. A half chance.

Stoke are going too quickly at times and that isn't allowing players to get forward in support, their forwards seem very isolated at the moment.

    Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

Good build up by the away side sees Jordon Ibe pull the ball down to fire from 18 yards but it's tame and straight at Jack Butland.

Ibrahim Afellay gets beyond the Liverpool back four to win Stoke's first corner.

They ready themselves in the area but it's a sneaky low ball into Bojan who will shoot... no. He loses his footing and pretty much falls into the ball when well placed.

A fine corner routine as the ball was slid back to him when runners made space for the Spaniard. He'd have expected more from 12 yards. The best opening so far.

    Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

Xherdan Shaqiri has around five yards start on Alberto Moreno down the Stoke left but moves with the pace of a shopping trolley missing a wheel and the full-back robs him on halfway.

Roberto Firmino edges into the area, he wants shooting space and gets it on his left foot... bravely blocked by Erik Pieters.

    Some surprising stats.

Liverpool may be well on top but it is Stoke who have had 61% of possession. They have done nothing with it.

    Stoke 0-0 Liverpool

That injury to Philippe Coutinho has acted as a little bit of a settler for Stoke. Some possession in midfield leads to a cross-field pass towards Glen Johnson and he wins a throw-in deep in the Liverpool half.

That right side looks popular for Stoke, are they targeting Alberto Moreno?

Invariably Liverpool look to find Coutinho. He is the link man and this is a huge blow.

Jordon Ibe will enter the fray after a minimal warm up. He's taken up a position on the left. Shirt out, he has the look of a man late for his wedding.

Oh no for Philippe Coutinho. He's on the deck and gives the signal that it's game over for him.

He shakes his head on the floor and gets up with a limp. The Brazilian has looked lively so far but the list of injuries grows.
