That was a chance for Bournemouth. Record signing Benik Afobe heads high when he should have at least hit the target from six yards. West Ham under the cosh.

Bang! Into the bottom corner it goes. Harry Arter collects the ball on the edge of the box, a shuffle of the hips, a change of direction, a switch to the right foot, and the Cherries midfielder strikes. Adrian could have done better, but Arter celebrates his first Premier League goal. Just what this game needed. 

Bournemouth gradually working their way back into this match, though James Tomkins comes up with a smart late tackle on Harry Arter to earn his team a goalkick when they looked to be in trouble.

Andy Carroll has disappeared down the tunnel. He's never scored in three successive Premier League matches and he's unlikely to do so tonight as he seems cooked. Slaven Bilic must call on a replacement in the form of Nikica Jelavic. 

Great work by Andy Carroll. The striker out-muscles Charlie Daniels down the right flank, zips a low cross which fizzes across the face of goal. Carroll is now on the ground, though, receiving treatment for an ailment on his left leg... 

Lovely interchange between Dimitri Payet and Pedro Obiang in the middle of the park. The former bisects Bournemouth's defence with a cute through ball, but Valencia fails to beat the offside trap. 

Angelo Ogbonna hasn't got enough juice on his pass to Aaron Cresswell and that puts West Ham on the back foot. Bournemouth, though, are unable to take advantage. Lewis Grabban looks on from the substitutes' bench, gazing into the middle distance. 

It's been a scrappy couple of minutes, but West Ham have had the better of possession, if you call aerial ping-pong possession. The hosts unable to get a foothold in this match yet. 

Confidence. Mark Noble has a shot from distance after Artur Boruc comes off his line. Had it been on target... 

Martin Atkinson is the referee. He owns a whistle, which is nice, especially when he blows it to start the match. Toot! Toot! Off we go. 

The players are out on the pitch, shaking each other's hands, wishing each other luck, but not meaning etc. A vocal support from the home fans under the floodlights.

Andy Carroll has been in fine form of late, scoring twice in his last two league games. Inevitably, that has led to speculation linking the striker to moves to Newcastle and Sunderland, to name but two clubs. But Slaven Bilic says he has no intention of selling Carroll this month. 

“Nobody at the club wants to sell him, he’s a very good player. But whenever he scores a couple of goals the rumours start," said the Hammers boss earlier this week. , external

“The only way he can stop the rumours is to play badly, which we don’t want him to do. We don’t want to sell him. He’s very good in the dressing room and I know he’s happy here.”

Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson, who is out injured, on BBC Radio 5 live: "When I got injured Alan Shearer texted me. I didn't realise that he had the same injury and it's good to see he had the career he had after that."

On the Cherries signing two strikers: "There is always competition which is healthy for the team and with me out we need players scoring. 

"They are being welcomed in with open arms and, hopefully, we can get the goals to move up the league."

"West Ham have coped brilliantly with a long injury list recently, keeping it rock solid at the back while Andy Carroll and Michail Antonio have taken their chance to show what they can do. Five of their next six games are against teams in the bottom half so there is a good chance to push on from here."

Slaven Bilic has made two changes to the West Ham side which beat Liverpool in the league, with Pedro Obiang and Dimitri Payet in for Cheikhou Kouyate and Manuel Lanzini.

Bournemouth’s club-record signing Benik Afobe does start for the Cherries, replacing Joshua King, in the only change to the side which drew 0-0 against Leicester in their last Premier League outing. 

New signings Lewis Grabban and Juan Iturbe are named as substitutes.

Yep, Bournemouth have been spending the cash. The latest is old boy Lewis Grabban returning from Norwich for about £7m - a purchase made only 24 hours after the Cherries spent a club-record £9m on another striker, Benik Afobe.
