Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew, wearing grey fingerless gloves, sways from left to right and then forwards and backwards.

No idea what the Macarena style gestures mean. I'm hoping it transmits to his players though.

Argentine striker Sergio Aguero strikes narrowly wide while on the ground. He's on a bit of a barren run, only bagging one in the past five league games.

It was a quiet opening but this game is coming to life now.

City's sweeping move sees them attack Crystal Palace with pace and the ball comes in to Nigerian youngster Kelechi Iheanacho inside the box. He kills the ball expertly but can't swivel quickly enough to get a shot away.

Would have been two if he connected with that.

    Mark Lawrenson
Ex-Liverpool defender at the Etihad for BBC Radio 5 live

"Manchester City are a little bit faceless. It's perfunctory, they can not get Kevin de Bruyne or David Silva into the game. They look very ordinary at the moment.

"Let's say they win the game. Manuel Pellegrini will think, 'that's great, I have saved my players and we can kick on until the end of the season', but football does not always work like that."

Credit to Crystal Palace who haven't let their heads drop and are heading upfield to try to get a goal back. It's been a while since they've managed that, though.

Midfielder Yohan Cabaye is brought down by goalscorer Fabian Delph about 30 yards out.

The Frenchman takes the resulting free-kick, which is curling to the bottom corner, but Joe Hart scampers across to push it away. Good save.

    Joe LedleyImage source, .

The man on the pitch seeing most of the ball is Joe Ledley in the Crystal Palace midfield. He has played 27 passes, 89% of them complete. Kevin de Bruyne and Sergio Aguero have had just 11 touches and seven touches respectively.

Crystal Palace striker Connor Wickham is so isolated up front on his own. He tries to do it all himself, taking on four Man City defenders but they snuff out the danger.

He's going to need more support from his team-mates, almost a case of if you say run, I’ll run with you.

"It's a shocker from Wayne Hennessey. It was a decent strike from Fabian Delph and, despite diving to his left, the ball goes underneath him."

Ooh, Crystal Palace nearly get back into the game. Joe Hart's goal-kick hits James McArthur on the back and the ball falls to Damien Delaney, whose attempt towards an open net flies narrowly over.

A hair-raising moment for the Man City goalkeeper.

"It was a good strike - it had to be a left foot strike from Fabian Delph. I think the keeper should have saved it. I don't think he has been strong enough. He needed stronger wrists, he should have at least pushed it around the posts. A CW moment - chocolate wrists."

Oh deary me, Wayne Hennessey has had another shocker.

Having let one slip through his hands against Aston Villa, the Crystal Palace man shows some more incompetent goalkeeping.

Manchester City midfielder Fabian Delph has the ball about 30 yards out and tries a speculative drive which squirms under the Welshman and into the net.

Alan Pardew shakes his head on the touchline.

Stoke City midfielder on BBC Radio 5 live's weekend preview show

"Manchester City have not grabbed the league by the scruff of the neck. Sergio Aguero and David Silva have been injured. We're waiting for a big performance from them but they're still in the mix. I think they'll win the league with the squad they have."

A very quiet opening period on the pitch at the Etihad and the crowd aren't much louder either.

In the cricket, Alex Hales has fallen but England need just 10 more runs to win.

Former England full-back on Football Focus

"I don't think Man City will be champions - this will be Arsenal's year. City just can't get their best XI out onto the pitch. They haven't been consistent enough, and I think they'll finish second.

"Kompany is such a leader for his team, and Aguero scores their goals. Get them both out onto the field and they are a much better side."

Another Crystal Palace corner and again a little bit of concern for the Manchester City defenders.

Jason Puncheon clips it in and defender Scott Dann has his header blocked, before Connor Wickham acrobatically volleys his effort over the crossbar.

City need to wake up or they're going to fall behind in this match.

Better from Manchester City, finally applying some pressure at the Palace end. Kelechi Iheanacho shows some neat footwork with the ball, which the visiting defenders eventually clear for a corner.

David Silva's ball into the box comes to nothing though. It was an outswinger. Why not swing it in and test Wayne Hennessey who had a shocker against Aston Villa last time out?

Palace frontman Connor Wickham is already proving to be a handful for Nicolas Otamendi. The City defender brings him down near the halfway line and is struggling to get to grips with the big striker.

The Argentine is in for a tough afternoon at a chilly Etihad Stadium.

Crystal Palace are considering signing former Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor on a free transfer. They were discussing it last night on BBC Radio 5 live.

Former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson: "He's a really good player. He'd put bums on seats. I think Alan Pardew is very capable of managing high maintenance players. If he does decide to go for it, it won't be on a whim."

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam: "He'll take the load off Connor Wickham. I think he'd be a good signing."

How much will that early missed chance hurt Crystal Palace? Skipper Damien Delaney was literally leading from the front there.

City haven't got into this game yet and can't get their foot on the ball. The visitors are up for this.
