    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Well, I think that game could well be the very embodiment of needing to take your chances. United had one shot on target - Rooney's goal - and won the game.

Liverpool had four (as part of 19 overall) but leave with nothing.

  2. FULL-TIME

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

    Wayne Rooney
  3. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Christian Benteke is offside as Liverpool come forward. That could be it. We've played 93 minutes.

  4. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Liverpool salvaged a point against Arsenal here in midweek. Can they do it again? Jordan Henderson slings a free-kick into the box but United are strong and clear.

  5. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Nothing subtle about this. Recent loan signing Steven Caulker - a central defender - is sent on for James Milner to stand up front and win headers. Route one time. Three minutes will be added to the 90.

  6. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Oh, Liverpool's players are their own worst enemies. Emre Can cuts back from the right byline for one of James Milner or Christian Benteke to shoot, but they get in each other's way before flicking the ball towards Roberto Firmino, who thinks he is offside so doesn't move. He wasn't, so he really should have.

  7. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Liverpool's players, fans, even Klopp, look shellshocked by that goal. The Kop is silent, the home players are failing to create anything and the German manager stands on the touchline, his jaw practically on the floor.

    #bbcfootball

Alex Whitington: Snatch & grab job from Utd here. 16 attempts no goal from Liverpool. Finishing lessons badly needed & a fit Sturridge.

John JOHN Atoyebi: 1 shot and 1 goal on target by #MUFC after 76 minutes. #Liverpool with more shots and attempts will feel hard done by.

Peter David Smith: Credit to Fellaini. He beat four Liverpool players to the ball which gave Rooney the freedom to poach unmarked.

jaleel oladipo: This is why you keep players like Rooney on even when he's poor because to be fair, he's done nothing but score and that's what matters.

  9. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Wayne Rooney fires an effort from 40 yards. Needless to say, it goes wide. Commentator Jonathan Pearce sums it up best with the simple, "from there?!"

  10. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Phil Jones enjoyed that goal. He's bouncing around amongst the rest of the travelling United fans. In contrast, Daniel Sturridge, sat up in one of the Anfield boxes, looks very, very glum.

  12. Post update

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

That Wayne Rooney goal came from United's first shot on target. It also means the striker now holds the record for the most goals by a player for one Premier League club - 176.

    Liverpool 0-1 Man Utd

    Pat Nevin

Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Marouane Fellaini has had a bit of stick today but he beat everyone with that header from just outside the six-yard box, it hit the bar and came came back to Wayne Rooney who was in acres of space. The England captain has done nothing in the game but he leathered it into the roof of the net."

  14. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

Now chasing the game, Jurgen Klopp sends on the big man. Christian Benteke is put on for a rescue mission in place of Kolo Toure.

  15. GOAL - Liverpool 0-1 Manchester United

    Wayne Rooney

I'm having to rub my eyes! We have a goal! And despite barely threatening in the game it is the visitors who have scored it! A corner is swung into the box and headed against the bar by Marouane Fellaini before Wayne Rooney reacts quickest to hook the ball into the roof of the net. Smash. And. Grab.

  16. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

The travelling Manchester United fans aren't a happy bunch. They're chanting the name of Ander Herrera who they feel should not have been hauled off by manager Louis van Gaal.

And here's why. The Spanish midfielder's touch map shows us that he has been all over the pitch, with only centre-back Daley Blind having more touches of the ball for the visitors.

    Manchester United
  17. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Liverpool's first change sees Jordon Ibe come on for Adam Lallana.

  18. YELLOW CARD

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Marouane Fellaini has had little impact on this game but gets a booking for the impact he makes on the shin of Jordan Henderson.

  19. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Ugh. This is awful. Mamadou Sakho tries to drive a ball into the box but sends it sailing over everyone and out of play. I might just stick a box set on.

    David de Gea
  20. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Another Liverpool chance goes begging. Mamadou Sakho is tall but not quite tall enough to get over a header at the back post from James Milner's deep cross. The result: a goal-kick. Meanwhile, the United fans sing Ander Herrera's name. That's what they think of the decision to replace him with Depay.
