  1. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Louis van Gaal twists again, taking off Ander Herrera and sending on Memphis Depay. Not sure that will strike fear into Liverpool's hearts. He's clearly got ability, though. Now would be a very good time to show it for his side.

Lee Rowley: I don't even think Harry Potter could bring any magic to this match

Peter David Smith: Liverpool no pace no precision. United no plan no passion. Dull. Dull. Dull.

Callum Anderson: Hoping Mata can rekindle the magic of his performance last season....

  3. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

    Phil McNulty

BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Anfield is still subdued and there has been slightly more encouragement for Manchester United's fans, who have found their voice. Only one goalkeeper is in work, though, and that is United's David de Gea. Liverpool's Simon Mignolet has not had any sort of examination.

  4. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

United look to have largely given up on the idea of attacking. They are simply digging in now to hold Liverpool at bay. The home side win another corner, which is flicked on at the near post before United hack clear.

  5. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has looked the likeliest to break the deadlock, having had more shots (five) than anyone else on the pitch.

But that effort straight at David de Gea a few moments ago is the only one that has hit the target.

  6. GREAT SAVE!

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

David de Gea is called into action again, with a double save to firstly deny Emre Can from range and then leap up to palm away Roberto Firmino's follow-up from an angle on the left.

  7. 'Get the ball to Martial'

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

    Pat Nevin

Former Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 live

"Manchester United are coming into the game more. The most upsetting thing for United fans is that when Anthony Martial gets on the ball and runs at defenders he looks extraordinarily dangerous, but he is not getting on the ball enough."

  8. Magic Mata

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

  9. SUBSTITUTION

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

I forgot Jesse Lingard was even playing for United. Well, he isn't anymore as he is replaced by Juan Mata

  10. YELLOW CARD

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Chris Smalling ends a Liverpool break by blocking Roberto Firmino to get the game's first booking.

  11. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Jordan Henderson drives a shot on target from the edge of the box but David de Gea is behind it and saves.

  12. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Daley Blind's corner is headed clear by Mamadou Sakho and United remain without a single shot on target. Looks like we might see Juan Mata soon.

    Anthony Martial
  13. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Oh, Kolo Toure takes a risk (a necessary one mind) to slide in towards his own goal to put a low United cross from the right behind. Corner.

  14. The global game...

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

  15. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Roberto Firmino has a pop from range but his shot flies way over the bar. At times, a game of football threatens to break out here, but the players keep finding a way to drag it down again.

  16. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Look, Marcos Rojo is there as well.

  17. Happy with what you see?

    Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd

He's not the only United player in with the crowd...

  18. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

We can't say that Liverpool have come out of the traps since the restart - but they were bossing things until that period of United pressure that ended in Martial's shot.

Almost 50% of the opening second-half exchanges have been spent in the visiting third of the pitch.

  19. Post update

    Liverpool 0-0 Manchester United

Chance! Missed! Anthony Martial bursts into life and beats a Liverpool man on the left of the box but his shot flies across goal and a yard or two past the far post. That is easily the closest the visitors have come to a goal.
