There used to be a time, not so long ago, when United used to blow teams away with pace, power and skill. There has been little of that on display here. Southampton look very comfortable.

First groans around Old Trafford as Maroaune Fellaini puts the ball out of play for a Saints throw.

It is very, very quiet in Old Trafford. The home fans have been given nothing to get excited about and seem resigned to another first 45 of dire, goalless football. Meanwhile, on the pitch, Ryan Bertrand hits a free-kick from the right out of play for a goal kick.

Play is stopped as Jordy Clasie receives treatment following a clash with Marouane Fellaini. To be fair, there has been so little action so far, it is difficult to tell the difference.

Southampton briefly threaten as United lose possession in midfield but Chris Smalling does well to slide in and deny Sadio Mane the chance to run in to the box. United counter-attack, but Ryan Bertrand is strong and holds off Anthony Martial, who resorts to fouling.

Wayne Rooney crosses from the left and finds touch on the right. That about sums the game up, so far.

Rooney looks to make amends soon after with a shot from 22 yards that swings past the post.

'Not enough players working off the ball'

"Last time I was here i made the point there were not enough players running off the ball. They are good on the ball, but not at making space for the players working off the ball. There is not enough support when ball gets up to the front players."

Manchester United have only scored one first-half goal in their past nine league matches at Old Trafford.

Southampton had the best away defence in the Premier League last season.

Doesn't fill you with hope.

This is polar opposite of that second half at Carrow Road. There, they had goals galore. Here, the home fans have had zero reasons to even shift them in their seats. Very dull.

'Edgy'

"It is definitely edgy here at Old Trafford, for Manchester United there are not enough players in support.

"The statistic that they have no scored in the first-half is incredible, I wonder if it is down to confidence? I am convinced it is."

Daley Blind has a pop from over 40 yards but it is a comfortable save for Fraser Forster. It is the first shot on target, but it was never a real threat. Southampton will be happy with this so far.

Well, 10 minutes have gone and we've only had a tame shot from Anthony Martial to disappointingly pin to the fridge.

This is all very sedate so far. Anthony Martial looks to get the pulses going but after a drive towards the Saints box he pulls his shot way past the post.

The Saints look to get Shane Long into the game but a long ball forward glances off his head and through to David de Gea. 

Southampton snapping into early tackles to unsettle United's midfield. No chances yet. Neither team have threatened the opposition box.

As I said earlier, this is a big first 10 minutes for Man Utd. They need to start quickly to continue the momentum of that victory at Liverpool. The longer the game remains 0-0, the more confident Southampton will get.
