Will we see Charlie Austin in a Saints shirt at OT?

"A win at Liverpool and a more aesthetically pleasing display at Newcastle may have appeased regular Manchester United watchers, but they'll need to kick off in upbeat, attack-minded mode here to keep them onside.

"Another 'sideways start' at Old Trafford won't be looked upon kindly, with fans hoping that club legend Bryan Robson's hunch that 'Louis van Gaal will look to be that little bit more attacking' , external is proved right.

"Back-to-back wins bring Southampton into the game with confidence - their new 3-4-2-1 system suiting the players nicely - and then there's the boost a new striker signing brings.

"Whether Charlie Austin starts or not, Saints WILL set off on the front foot."

Sorry folks, but we've already had the game of the day today. It has just finished Norwich 4-5 Liverpool, with the winner coming deep into injury time, just a minute or two after the home side had equalised.

To be honest, I'd snap your hand off for half as many goals at Old Trafford this afternoon.

"Austin will get opportunities because Southampton get crosses into the box which is what he thrives on. That type of striker is a dying breed."

“Charlie Austin has real quality, he can score different types of goals. He reminds me of John Hartson.

"I think he is perfect for Southampton, they are the top crossers in the Premier League and prepared to cross the ball from wide areas, that is Charlie Austin's bread and butter."

  12. Away day bluespublished at 14:30

Man Utd v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

Southampton have had a decent couple of weeks themselves. Two wins on the trot has lifted them up to 10th in the table.

Having lost their last four away games in the Premier League, the Saints could really do with a repeat of last season's victory at Old Trafford - their first win at the ground since 1988.

  13. On the up?published at 14:30

Man Utd v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

It has been a good couple of weeks for Louis van Gaal (no, seriously). An improved attacking display at Newcastle, followed by a narrow win at Liverpool have bought the Manchester United boss some goodwill.

How long that lasts at Old Trafford will depend on what happens from 3pm to 3:10pm. Start well and the momentum will build. Begin badly and the Old Trafford crowd will turn quicker than a saucer of milk in the Sahara desert.
