    Garth Crooks
Former Spurs striker on Final Score

"It is a lovely take and he has the chance to hit it first time or slide it around the goalkeeper, he takes the more difficult route, to take it around him and slot it into an empty goal. Great goal."

  2. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Watford 1-0 Newcastle

Newcastle coach Steve McClaren seems to be enquiring whether the Ighalo was offside or not. The Nigeria striker appeared to check his run to ensure he was in line with the defence before making his move.

One for MOTD to look at.

  3. Ighalo scores first time since 28 Decemberpublished at 46 mins

What a superb start by Watford. Troy Deeney dinks a through ball through to strike partner Odion Ighalo who rounds keeper Rob Elliot and slots in his 14th of the season.

That is your lot for the first half. Both sides should have scored in a match that has flitted from good quality to average.

  8. Postpublished at 45+1 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

Aleksandar Mitrovic finds himself one-on-one with the last defender but slows up for some reason on the edge of the area. Should the Serb forward have made more of that? Does he have any pace?

  10. Postpublished at 43 mins

Are the Hornets forwards getting slightly frustrated?

The Magpies, with five in midfield, are doing what the Saints did in their 2-0 win over a week ago by blocking access to Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

It's hard work fro the home side so far.

Newcastle again bother Watford in the home area. Jonjo Shelvey sneaks his way into the area, but his square ball eludes all.

Watford have lost their last four league games, and have taken one point from a possible 15 since Christmas. Can Odion Ighalo lead the Hornets to their first league victory of 2016?

  13. Postpublished at 33 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

Watford are struggling to get their main striker Odion Ighalo into the game. He has 13 goals this season, but hasn't scored since 28 December. As I've said before... he persists until the final second.

  14. Postpublished at 20 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

Imagine a carriage on a rollercoaster, which slowly trundles up to the top then suddenly plunges down 40 feet and hurtles at 60mph before slowing down again.

That basically sums up this game so far.

  15. GREAT MOVE & GREAT SAVE!published at 25 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

The Magpies hit Watford on the counter with swift one-touch football. It's Moussa Sissoko down the right again, who plays a square ball to Gini Wijnaldum. His deft lay-off finds the fast-arriving Aleksandar Mitrovic, whose low sidefoot shot is saved by the foot of Heurenlho Gomes.

    Excellent football all round.

  16. Postpublished at 22 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

Watford looking much more assured now and having lots of the ball. Newcastle sitting back - perhaps looking to catch them on the break?

  17. GREAT DOUBLE SAVE!published at 19 mins

    Watford 0-0 Newcastle

The Hornets, after a quiet first 16 minutes, come to life. They should have scored too.

First Troy Deeney's shot is saved low by Rob Elliot and then the Irish keeper follows up to block Etienne Capoue's effort at the near post.

  18. Postpublished at 16 mins

The ball is given away again by Watford. Newcastle break with Moussa Sissoko on the ball. He plays it wide to Rolando Aarons - making his first league start this season - but the young English winger does not shoot or cross.

  19. Postpublished at 13 mins

Ben Watson delivers a great ball to the far post, but Watford team-mate Nathan Ake fails to get a touch and falls to the ground under the legitimate challenge of Moussa Sissoko.

The Hornets clear their area, before Chancel Mbemba can get his head to the ball. Watford have yet to settle, but they have a free-kick from just outside the area.
