Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew: "We wouldn't have lost the game if it hadn't been for their goalkeeper. At 1-1 he made two great saves and it was just not our day.

"Wilfried Zaha was a problem for them and on another day we could've won this game. We haven't done much wrong, but they have great individual talent and they won it with a couple of special moments."

Pardew on Dele Alli's stunning goal: "It was horrible to watch, and I don't often say that about a beautiful goal. As soon as he flicked the ball over his head I feared the worst. It was a great moment for him and he is a great talent."

In League One, Shrewsbury ended Burton's three-match winning run as Shaun Whalley's injury-time goal gave them a 2-1 win.

Burton have been knocked off the top by Gillingham, who edged Peterborough 2-1.

Elsewhere, Barnsley secured the division's biggest win of the day by hammering Rochdale 6-1. 

Northampton Town earned a comfortable 3-1 victory - their 10th in 11 games - against Morecambe to move two points clear at the top of League Two.  

Bottom of the table York earned a priceless point at Carlisle, drawing 1-1 while Oxford United strengthened their automatic promotion charge by beating Portsmouth 1-0.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal: "I had a feeling they could score only from a set-play. Our defence in set-plays was weaker because I changed Fellaini and had to change Darmian. Every change was a weakness in defence.

Bottom of the table Bolton earned a much-needed win by beating MK Dons 3-1 and they are five points from safety. Bolton's survival hopes were boosted by relegation rivals Charlton and Bristol City failing to win. Charlton were held 1-1 by Blackburn while Bristol City lost 1-0 at Leeds.
