    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland striker Kyle Lafferty on BBC One: "I think we were overawed.

"That was not the team that has got us here, we have lacked a lot of that today and have come away with no points.

"We knew it would be tough, but I think the whole performance was not a Northern Ireland performance and on Thursday we will go and put it right.

"We can change the fight and determination. We didn’t turn up today, Michael will talk to us and we will take notice and we will have a more determined and heartful performance on Thursday."

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

A quite remarkable stat coming now.

That was Poland's first EVER win in a European Championship.

It's their third successive tournament but they've finished bottom on both previous occasions, including at Euro 2008, which they co-hosted.

James Stevenson: Lack of quality in final third is going to cost Northern Ireland. Showed grit, defended well, but Poland better all round.

Jmac: I don't want to critical of M O'Neil but we had been playing so well with 352 I think going back to 541 was too negative alas.

  7. 'We were feeding on scraps'published at 19:03 British Summer Time 12 June 2016

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland defender Chris Brunt, who is injured on the sidelines, has been speaking on BBC One.

"We didn't create an awful lot. We looked more dangerous when Conor Washington came on with two up top. We were feeding on scraps.

"It's warm here and it was taking its toll on the players. But I don't think application or effort was ever going to be in doubt.

"The lads and Michael will be disappointed with how we did with the ball tonight.

"There's a lot more hanging on next game. We need to go out and get the win. But our preparations won't change. We'll take time to recover and reflect."

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley on BBC Radio 5 live: "We are disappointed with the result. We set up to get a clean sheet and nick something then they scored and we had to come out.

"I thought we were better then and moved the ball a bit better. Maybe in the second game we will be a bit more positive because we have nothing to lose.

"We have got to win the game and play on the front foot and I think maybe we let them dictate possession too much because we have been doing that in qualifying.

"We are just disappointed for the supporters really."

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland skipper Steven Davis on BBC One: "It's a disappointing evening. We have to braver on the ball but it's a real learning curve for us. We always knew it would be difficult but we weren't good enough."

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

    For fans of heat maps...

Plenty of action in Poland's attacking half (left), less so in Northern Ireland's (right). Valiant effort from Michael O'Neill's side but you can hardly say that Poland didn't deserve the win.

"Poland have deserved to win the match.

"The tactics board is going to have to be rewritten in the Northern Ireland dressing room.

"Poland controlled the game, created best chances and Northern Ireland didn't create enough or have enough possession of the ball.

"Hats off to Poland but we have got two more games to try and salvage something to get through to the next round of this competition."

    Poland 1-0 Northern Ireland

We're into three minutes of injury time. Can Northern Ireland find something?

A ball comes flying into the Poland box and as keeper Wojciech Szczesny flies forward to catch it, he comes steaming into Lukasz Piszczek.

The Polish pair go bang, crash and wallop into each other.

It takes them 30 seconds before they both walk off a bit gingerly, and Szczesny pats his team-mate on the head to say sorry.

What can Oliver Norwood do here? Urrrrm...not a lot.

The Reading man misses every team mate as he skims the ball over and it goes straight out.
