Whether they progress tonight or not, Wales boss Chris Coleman says Euro 2016 is "not the end of the journey" for his squad.

"We are in a fantastic position. Nevertheless, there's more to come."

The atmosphere in Toulouse has been simmering today with the southern French sunshine beating down on vast seas of red Welsh shirts.

An estimated 20,000 Wales fans are here for their crucial match against Russia, hoping to watch their team reach the knockout stages of a major tournament for just the second time in their history.

Wales’ players have spoken about the lift their loud followers gave them during their opening win against Slovakia and, having been outnumbered against England, it is expected Chris Coleman’s team will enjoy the majority of the support at the 33,000-capacity Stadium de Toulouse, the smallest Euro 2016 venue.

Mark Hughes' Wales team suffered one of the most heartbreaking nights in Welsh football when they lost 1-0 to Russia in their Euro 2004 qualifying play-off, having drawn the Moscow leg 0-0.

It then emerged Russia's Egor Titov had failed a drugs test after the first leg in Moscow, before playing for just under an hour in their 1-0 triumph at the Millennium Stadium.

Wales failed in their attempt to have Russia thrown out of Euro 2004 and, 12 years on, a new generation of Welsh players hope to consign that defeat to history.

Relive that game here (if you dare).

Russia boss Leonid Slutsky says on Sports.ru, external he is "certain that all fan violence - at least for Russian fans - is a thing of the past" and that the trouble didn't affect the team's "preparation or mindset".

"We are too focused on what needs to be done to be distracted by things that we have no influence over."

There is a column by former Russia boss Vyacheslav Malafeev on the website of newspaper Sports Express: , external"I am sure that our footballers have their eyes set on three points. And mindset is key in such situations, I know that.

"We need to work ourselves into a rage and come out and fight in the game against Wales… We need to use Wales's own weapons against them. From the first minutes, we should play aggressively, meet them with fierceness in every inch of the field. Then Wales will realise that we can't be taken with simple pressure."

Sports website Liveresult.ru predicts that Russia will beat Wales: “Russians have experience in beating the Welsh, thrice beating them in qualifiers for Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup…

"The games with the Slovaks and English took a lot out of team Wales and they will probably not be able to perform as well tonight as in previous games.”

Commentator Yevgeny Dzinkovsky in venerated sports daily Sovetsky Sport, externallaments that today's Russian footballers don't do justice to their forefathers: "This team doesn't know how to play like that. Or if they do know, they certainly don't show it.

"It would be half the trouble if they were being lazy, if they hadn't played enough together or been psychologically crippled. This is fixable. But a lack of skill, when we're talking about technique and processing power - this is not. This is generational. This is fundamental."

Official channel Rossiya 1 say:“Russian footballers will play their most important match at the Euro tonight – to stay in the competition, they need to beat Wales.”

State-owned Channel One: “The future of the Russian football team will be decided in Toulouse tonight.”

Influential business daily Kommersant: “A little over a day before the Russia-Wales game, Toulouse was reminiscent of a city under siege – or as the French authorities say ‘in a high-risk zone’… In a way, the Russian team is in a similar position to Toulouse. You could also say it is under siege. There is no retreat. Retreat means a ticket to Moscow.”

Centrist daily Nezavisimaya Gazeta: “Exceptional security measures are in place in Toulouse where Russia will play Wales.”

They won't need any motivation. This is the biggest game of their lives. None of the players apart from Gareth Bale will have played in a game like this.

We are in with a chance of qualifying in the third game, we've got to play better than we did the other day against England - but Russia aren't as good as England.

The average age of Russia's back four is 32. Russia have been very poor in their first two games. I don't think they can play as bad again.

I think Wales can bounce back. I'm pleased to see Sam Vokes start.

    John Hartson
Ex-Wales striker on BBC Radio 5 live

Gareth Bale normally doesn't say anything in front of the press but against England he was very opinionated, saying none of their players would get in the Wales team - I think he was looking for a bit of a bite there.

He does seem to be taking a lead role, he's our best player and he's integral to what Chris Coleman is trying to do.

He's already got two goals in this tournament and I don't think he's been anywhere near as good as he can play.
