    Game on?!

Cracking centre-forward play from Aleksandar Mitrovic as he gets between Marouane Fellaini and Daley Blind to nod down a chip into the path of Georginio Wijnaldum and the Dutch midfielder steers in a first-time volley. Lovely finish.

  2. CLOSE!published at 20:27

    Newcastle 0-2 Man Utd

What a hit! Fabricio Coloccini takes aim from a full 25 yards and catches it as sweet as you like, a fine swerving strike which flies a few yards wide!

  3. League One and Two updatepublished at 20:26

Only one goal to tell you about so far but it's a big one for Wigan. The Latics solidify their position in the League One play-off places thanks to Will Grigg's opener against Sheffield United.

"Absolutely superb. Wayne Rooney just held the ball up and waited for the run. A superb finish from Jeese Lingard. He just slotted it under keeper Rob Elliot. Newcastle caught with a sucker punch as there were too many people in attack for them."

Louis van Gaal's side have had plenty of stick so let's give credit where it's due - a cracking counter-attack doubles the lead.

Ander Herrera slides a pass into the run of Wayne Rooney who is on his own against four Newcastle defenders. Rooney turns Fabricio Coloccini inside out, as he releases the ball perfectly for Jesse Lingard arriving on his left. Lingard takes aim and fires in through the keeper's legs.

No ifs, no buts, Georginio Wijnaldum should have equalised for Newcastle.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:22

    Bournemouth 1-0 West Ham

West Ham have been poor going forwards tonight but they almost get lucky when Nikica Jelavic's cross is deflected and Artur Boruc makes an astoundingly good save!

The ball had him wrongfooted, but Boruc adjusts mid-dive and claws it out with one hand. Stunner.

    Daryl JanmaatImage source, AFP

"Referee Mike Dean's not a favourable person in this ground is he? A controversial penalty to Manchester United and he could have given one to Newcastle for Jesse Lingard's challenge on Daryl Janmaat but chose not to. There's some scruffy guy to my right called Robbie Savage and he says it's a penalty."

  10. Championship updatepublished at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2016

As it stands at the top of the Championship, Derby – leading 1-0 against Reading - are reeling in leaders Middlesbrough, who are being held away to Brentford.

If it finishes like this, Boro’s lead will be down to two points.

Behind them in the play-off spots, Burnley - 1-0 up away to MK Dons - are leapfrogging over the top of Brighton, who are goalless away to Rotherham.

  11. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:19

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

Mike Dean hasn't got too many friends inside St James' Park. Newcastle want a penalty as Daryl Janmaat drives into the box and goes down under Jesse Lingard's lunge. Lingard's challenge was rash but he gets a mere touch on the ball I think...

Benik Afobe is having a debut of Jonathan Woodgate proportions. He's missed a sitter with his head a few minutes ago and now he treads on the ball with just the keeper to beat.

It will come, Benik. It will come. Maybe...

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 live

"That was the first big opportunity of the half for Newcastle. Great play from Ayoze Perez and it was a great save from David de Gea from Georginio Wijnaldum. Deja vu for Newacstle. When you are 1-0 down at home you have to put those chances away."

  17. CLOSE!published at 20:14

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

Should be two, it really should. Manchester United break at pace - no, honestly! - and Wayne Rooney gets clear behind. It's on his left foot, he clips the effort past Rob Elliot but it's wide.

Newcastle then have their first chance as Ayoze Perez tees up Georginio Wijnaldum inside the area but he hits David de Gea.

    SHOULD SCORE.

Villa desperately need a goal to get them going and Jordan Ayew is close to one, a strong run into the penalty area but his shot is into the side-netting.

Seconds later hard-as-nails Damien Delaney flicks an effort wide...

  19. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 20:10

    Newcastle 0-1 Man Utd

Marouane Fellaini has won one penalty for Manchester United and he has another shot blocked, by the hand of Paul Dummett this time. That was more of a handball than the one they were given but it ends with Fellaini being booked!
