"It was a great delivery, good pace and good height and John Brayford puts in a great block on Anthony Martial.

"We've said it plenty but Sheffield United really have defended very well."

In comes the free-kick, headed down... ANTHONY MARTIAL... what a block by John Brayford on the six-yard box.

That was on target and he stood there and took it like a heavyweight punch. A great chance for Martial some 10 yards out.

"Thank heavens there was no need for the stretcher, they clearly feared the worst for Bastian Schweinsteiger.

"He's back onto the pitch but he's limping in his own half. Is this a case of him just being on the pitch because otherwise Man Utd would be down to 10 men?"

Bastian Schweinsteiger is in pain. His hands are on his knees in his own half.

Jesse Lingaard comes forward down the right, tackled, the Premier League side get a free-kick though as Anthony Martial is fouled. That was more like it, slippery running by Martial and this is about 35 yards out, right of centre.

"When we got the teams I thought Louis van Gaal had put a strong side out and that he really wanted to win the game.

"It's just not happened but you've got to give Sheffield United credit for defending so well.

"A lot of teams will take note of this as Man Utd are lacking a player who can take the ball who can beat people and create, apart from Memphis Depay and Anthony Martial at times."

"He went down immediately raising his arm to signal he was seriously hurt.

"It wasn't a bad tackle but he went down straight away."

Chris Waddle: "It looks like his knee, he could've done his medial ligaments."

There's a relief for Manchester United fans as that old warhorse Bastian Schweinsteiger is on his feet, he walks slowly off and looks like he can carry on.

A crunching tackle from Chris Basham caused the damage. It seemed the German had his leg slightly open, his weight wasn't behind the challenge and he came out of it badly.

On he comes again, a cautious jog.

A banner highlighting the great George Best hangs at Old Trafford but the style he embodied is missing. As we enter the final 10 minutes, what significance will this result have for Louis van Gaal?

More bad news coming, Bastian Schweinsteiger is badly hurt. They'll be down to 10 here with all three substitutes on.

Dave in North Ayrshire: I would just like to give my heartfelt thanks to Manchester United for curing my insomZZZzzzz.

Olly in Bristol: Louis van Gaal's United play possession football. Pep Guardiola's Barcelona played possession football. So what made Guardiola's team so slick and stylish an appealing, while watching United is like watching paint dry?

"You're getting sacked in the morning."

Sheffield United's travelling contingent are letting rip.

Their captain Jay McEveley needs some treatment and runs the clock down. Bastian Schweinsteiger just had a bang from 30 yards but his outside-of-the-boot effort spins well wide.

"I've seen a lot of Man Utd this season - they're fifth in the Premier League, which is ok but really they've been poor.

"Yet I don't remember anything worse than this. There's been no threat."

Shohidur Rahman: Ironic cheers at Old Trafford after a Manchester United player has a shot. Has that ever happened before? #MUFC #bbcfootball.

Andrew Priestley: Times are bad when the home crowd sarcastically applaud and cheer an attempted effort on goal. Mutiny in the Old Trafford ranks.

There may be some Kolo Toure-esque cramps in this Sheffield United side soon. A counter-attack sees white shirts galloping forward but the pace at which they move is akin to that of a horse coming up the Cheltenham hill, tongue out, ruined.

So Manchester United are now Memphis Depay left, Jesse Lingaard right, Anthony Martial up top with Wayne Rooney behind.

More jeers as Matteo Darmain bundles some space and shoots tamely at George Long. What must Sir Alex Ferguson be thinking? He's in the stands and watching a Manchester United side playing at home and being jeered by their own.

Chris Basham followed Memphis in having a dig. On target, hardly box office.

Memphis Depay is on the left flank, drifts inside and the number seven is eyeing one here... right footed... GREAT STRIKE... just wide.

It was some three feet off the mark but a huge roar goes up among the home faithful, that is a shot after all and it's so rare the ironic jeers are perhaps understandable.
