Yohan Cabaye flots in a free kick that is too close to Heurelho Gomes, but Scott Dann's close attentions on the Hornets stopper means that Watford get a free kick anyway.

Adebayor seems to be gradually getting more and more into this, he's the target of a fine floated pass from Yohan Cabaye out on to the touchline but his herded off the pitch by a committed set of Watford defenders. The Togolese then blots his copybook by going down too easily for the referee's liking and seeing a free kick go the other way.

Nearly a super second for Watford, Odion Ighalo stretches to a ball over the top from Troy Deeney, but with his back partially turned to goal his flick cannot stay down and floats over the bar.

Palace are struggling to keep hold of the ball for any length of time, but one spell of possession ends abruptly when Nathan Ake barges in to Wilfried Zaha. The on-loan Chelsea man gets a talking-to, but nothing more than that from referee Madley.

Odion Ighalo latches on to a poor pass from Mile Jedinak, wriggles in to the area and then strikes the base of the near post. Wayne Hennessey blocks a follow up from Nordin Amrabat but the whistle for offside had just gone.

Watford are calmly stroking the ball around to frustrate the hosts. Palace then make a rare break but Scott Dann is just short of a cross inside the area and can't connect with his head after Nathan Ake had slipped while back-pedalling.

Palace boss Alan Pardew looks irked, vexed, or just plain angry - take your pick. His side are behind to a penalty and have yet to look like they are taking a grip on this game.

Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo link up neatly on the edge of the Palace box, but Deeney's eventual shot threatens the corner flag more than the goal.

Watford are being a bit more adventurous than the home side at the moment, as this average position map suggests.
