Summary

  • Win takes Brighton third in table

  • Knockaert's angled shot put hosts ahead

  • Hemed headed in Brighton's second

  • Murphy added third in stoppage-time

  1. Brighton 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 37 mins

Brentford have a half-chance to grab an equaliser.

A corner from the right-hand side comes all the way through to Lasse Vibe at the back post, but the ball just hits the unmarked Dane on the shoulder and he can't deflect the ball towards goal.

  2. Brighton 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 34 mins

Tempers flare slightly as Brentford defender Yoann Barbet over-runs the ball and goes in hard on Brighton midfielder Beram Kayal.

It's not so bad on second viewing, and referee Keith Stroud decides to keep his cards in his pocket.

But then moments later he books Brighton keeper David Stockdale - I'm not sure whether that is for time-wasting or saying something out of turn to the assistant referee.

I've been asking where you're following tonight's game from. Some are a long way away from Sussex...

Jon Lyndon: Another Brightonian following from Canada #seagullsmigrating

Max: Come on you Bees... from Stockholm, Sweden.

Ruairi Dorrity: I'm in San Francisco explaining to my colleagues why it is imperative that I take an extra hour for lunch to watch "soccer".

And some are a little closer to home...

Joe Parkinson: We are in Headingley!

  4. Brighton 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 30 mins

And Brighton almost double their lead straight away, but Tomer Hemed shoots into the side-netting when well placed in the box.

The Israel international has gone 10 games without a goal for the Seagulls.

    Brighton 1-0 Brentford (Knockaert)

    Anthony KnockaertImage source, Rex Features

Anthony Knockaert has been at the heart of everything good Brighton have done so far and he's got the first goal.

His ball frees Jamie Murphy on the left and Murphy cuts inside and gives it back to the Frenchman, who shifts the ball to the left and strikes hard and low across the goal.

David Button dives but can't keep the ball from going into the bottom right-hand corner.

Knockaert's first goal for the Seagulls.

  6. Brighton 0-0 Brentfordpublished at 25 mins

Brighton come within inches of opening the scoring

Seagulls captain Bruno hits a low shot from the edge of the area. However it's straight towards Brentford centre-back Harlee Dean.

He sticks out a leg and it cannons up onto the underside of the crossbar, and the Bees manage to clear the danger. That could have gone anywhere.

  7. Brighton 0-0 Brentfordpublished at 21 mins

Both these sides are known for their passing game but neither team is really dominating possession at the moment.

Moments ago Albion striker Bobby Zamora was offside from a long free-kick forward. It was marginal, but the right decision by the assistant.

  9. Brighton 0-0 Brentfordpublished at 13 mins

The game has quietened down slightly in the last few minutes, with those two chances each for Anthony Knockaert and Alan Judge the main action so far.

Bringing in former Leicester winger Knockaert from Standard Liege looks like good business by Brighton, but Brentford hanging on to Judge during the transfer window has been just as crucial for the west Londoners.

Knockaert is at his best when he's running at the defenders, and you don't know which way he is going to go. He can go both ways, he's not all left-footed and Brentford can't touch him in the box.

  11. Brighton 0-0 Brentfordpublished at 9 mins

Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale has made a great save to deny Alan Judge the first goal of the game.

The ball is cut back to the Irishman, who takes it on the half-volley from around the penalty spot and forces the former Fulham keeper to tip the ball over the bar.

The shot was straight at Stockdale, but tested his reactions.

  12. Brighton 0-0 Brentfordpublished at 7 mins

Anthony Knockaert is at it again, driving at the Brentford defence, and his shot is deflected wide for a corner.

From the resulting delivery Tomer Hemed heads over unmarked from six yards out, but a free-kick is given.

Moments earlier Alan Judge had Brentford's first effort of the game, bursting into the box but cutting the ball wide under pressure from Lewis Dunk.

The first chance of the evening falls to Brighton.

Jamie Murphy cuts in from the left hand flank and his shot from the edge of the box is blocked.

The loose ball falls to Anthony Knockaert, but the Frenchman can't get the ball out from under his feet and pokes narrowly wide.

    Brentford unchanged

Brentford head coach Dean Smith also names an unchanged team, sticking with the side which drew at home to Leeds on 26 January.

The Bees saw three first-team players leave during the transfer window, with Jota joining Eibar on loan, Toumani Diagouraga moving to Leeds and James Tarkowski completing a protracted transfer to Burnley.

Lewis Macleod could finally make his debut for the Bees from the bench, with a series of injuries keeping the midfielder sidelined since joining from Rangers in January 2015.
