Dale Stephens scored for the Seagulls.

Brighton remain third on 57 points after 32 games. Middlesbrough, in second, have played 30 games, and leaders Hull have 60 points from 31 games.

Cardiff are up to seventh with 49 points, two points behind Derby in sixth.

Elsewhere in the Championship today, there are a couple of big games at the bottom as Fulham, in 19th, host Charlton - seven points below them in 23rd. The two teams directly outside the relegation zone - MK Dons and Bristol City - meet each other.
