Not sure what the Madrid defenders have been working on in training this week. It hasn't been defending. They're all over the place. Artiz Aduriz is the architect as Athletic threaten again, skipping into the right side of the Madrid box before pulling back to Oscar De Marcos. But the midfielder is stretching and can only steer well wide.

Cracking game here. Could have been 2-2 or 3-2 already! Cristiano Ronaldo smashes a low shot towards goal, but it is gratefully gathered by Athletic keeper Iraizoz.

The Bernabeu makes a collective sigh of relief - Athletic hit the crossbar! Away striker Artiz Aduriz dashes to the front post to meet Balenziaga's low cross ahead of Sergio Ramos, clipping over Keylor Navas onto the top of the Madrid bar. Big let off for the home side.

Easy on the eye is this game. Cristiano Ronaldo is picked out by Mateo Kovacic's throughball, but an Athletic defender comes across to snuff out the danger. The Madrid man is also halted by an offside flag anyway. 

Ronaldo nips over to the touchline to take some advice from Zinedine Zidane. Who wouldn't?

Athletic aren't sitting back here. Artiz Aduriz almost puts the visitors ahead, hanging high in the air - dare I say Cristiano Ronaldo-esque - to meet Mikel Balenziaga's cross from the left. The Athletic striker heads powerfully down, Keylor Navas flinging himself low to his left to push clear.

Not the start that Raphael Varane envisaged in his dreams last night. He clatters Artiz Aduriz about 30 yards out, earning himself a yellow card. Athletic send up the big lads, but they can't test Keylor Navas as the ball flies wide.

Let's see Madrid react to that blow. Pretty well, the home side hogging possession again. Cristiano Ronaldo, out on the left, causes bother for the home side by drifitng in again. This time, he slashes wildly into the stands.

Chance of an equaliser! Athletic talisman Artiz Aduriz is picked out by a right wing cross, only to head well wide. Need to take their chances - they won't get many.

Cristiano Ronaldo is laughing like he has just watched the first series of The Inbetweeners. It's probably the fact he's escaped a booking that is making him chuckle. The Madrid forward blantantly dives outside of the Athletic box, doesn't get a free-kick, but doesn't see yellow either.

Just the start that Madrid wanted. That's Cristiano Ronaldo's 15th goal in 13 matches against Athletic. There will be streets parties in Bilbao when he finally retires.

Madrid are decked out in their famous all-white strip, Athletic in their red and white striped shirt. Let's rumble.

Both sets of players have walked out of the Bernabeu tunnel into the vast arena. Almost show time.
