As if Staggies fans weren't feeling bad enough after that defeat, BBC Sportsound pundit Barry Wilson points out they are now closer to 11th spot in the Premiership than third.

"It was a never a 3-0. It's one of those games when we haven't taken our chances and we've gifted them the lead. When Hearts get in front they are a very hard team to break down.

"For spells we were the dominant team but you need to put the ball in the net.

"I saw my team make good chances against a good team on a bobbly pitch. The performance level was good but we made individual errors and we've been punished."

That's a hat-trick of wins for Hearts over County this season.

The Staggies record in this fixture is not great, with just one win in the 14 meetings between the sides.

"The two teenagers in central defence did really well. They dealt with County's physicality and passed the ball well. This is a tough place to come and to get a 3-0 win is really pleasing. We got a little bit of luck with the first goal but we saw the game out well. Dauda is a top player and he showed his quality with those two goals.

"We are looking up the way. We want to hunt down Aberdeen and we want to hunt down Celtic."

Hearts are now 11 points behind Aberdeen in second place, having played a game less. The Jambos are comfortable in third as County slip 11 points adrift of them.

The first Hearts goal owed a lot to good fortune, with the ball going in off the back of Jamie Walker, who had no idea what was going on. However, the two late goals from substitute Abiola Dauda were top drawer finishes.

That's the first time County have failed to score at home this season and what was a makeshift Hearts defence can feel very proud of that.

Into stoppage time now and it's all gone very quiet in the Global Energy Stadium. The 400 or so Hearts fans won't get home til late but they'll enjoy the journey.
