Summary

  • Jon Toral scores only goal for Blues

  • Birmingham one points outside play-offs

  • Hull miss chance to go top

  1. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 67 mins

Should Hull have had a penalty? Abel Hernandez shoots and the ball cannons off Paul Robinson's arm.

He was about six yards away, and his arm was outstretched away from his body.

Certainly in the "seen them given" category.

  2. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 65 mins

In the driving rain at St Andrew's, Hull substitute Adama Diomande lashes a shot over from 18 yards. He had more time than he thought.

The Norway international has scored just once for the Tigers since joining in September.

  3. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 61 mins

More neat build-up play from Hull, but no end product. Abel Hernandez has a shot blocked, and then Nick Powell blazes over from just outside the box.

Substitute Adama Diomande has gone straight up front alongside Hernandez. Certainly more of a 4-4-2 for the visitors now.

  4. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 59 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Hull

Steve Bruce turns to his bench as he and his Hull side search for an equaliser.

Nick Powell and Adama Diomande are on for Tom Huddlestone and Mo Diame.

Hull manager Steve Bruce is back on familiar territory this evening, having twice led Birmingham to promotion to the Premier League during his time as Blues boss.

His current side are a goal down at present, but they have hit the post twice through Jake Livermore and Michael Dawson in the first half.

Remember, a draw or a win tonight will take the Tigers top of the Championship.

  6. Nightmare away tripspublished at 54 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Hull

There are 591 Hull fans at St Andrew's tonight, many of whom have made a trip of around 140 miles to see their team in the West Midlands.

It's fair to say they've not had the best of nights so far, but there's still time for their team to turn it around.

Sadly for the guys below, there's nothing they can do but look back and try to laugh about their nightmare away trips.

  7. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 51 mins

Appeals for a Birmingham penalty waved away as Clayton Donaldson is held by Moses Odubajo inside the box.

Michael Dawson had already headed clear, five yards in front of the pair, but still. It was a risky play from the Hull right-back.

  8. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 49 mins

A fairly tepid start to the second period at St Andrew's. Neither goalkeeper has been tested in the opening stages, and that will suit Birmingham very nicely.

  9. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

    Birmingham 1-0 Hull

No substitutions to report as Birmingham, who lead 1-0, get the second half under way.

    Battle of the Five-A-Sides

We're about to get going again in the Championship, but if watching five-a-side football played by (very tired) ex-professionals is more your thing, why not follow Sport Relief's Battle of the Five-A-Sides?

Match of the Day pundits Alan Shearer and Robbie Savage are going head-to-head in a 57-hour five-a-side marathon, which is due to end on Saturday.

Alan and Robbie are attempting to raise money for Sport Relief. To follow the action or for more details about how to donate, click here.

A few moments ago, the aggregate score was 111-110 in favour of Robbie.

Only about 45 and a half hours to hang on to that narrow lead. Just sit back and park the bus...

SheBelieves Cup: England v USA (Friday, 00:45 GMT)

The euphoria of last summer's third-place finish at the World Cup may have died down a little now, but England's women have an opportunity to make their mark on the world stage again over the next week or so.

Mark Sampson's side are one of four teams taking part in the SheBelieves Cup - along with France, Germany and hosts USA.

The Lionesses open against the US in Tampa in a few hours' time - you can watch it live on BBC One and the BBC Sport website.

    Friday: Middlesbrough v Wolves

Tomorrow, it's Middlesbrough's turn to attempt to seize control of the Championship promotion battle.

Aitor Karanka's side, who suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat by Blackburn on Tuesday, face mid-table Wolves.

Kenny Jackett's men ended a long winless run by beating Derby last Saturday.

Our live text coverage gets under way at 19:30 GMT.

    Birmingham 1-0 Hull

There's still time for Hull City to get back into this game tonight and send their travelling fans back to East Yorkshire with fond memories.

I've been asking for your nightmare away trips and it's fair to say some of you have been through the mill.

For our younger readers, it's worth noting that Wales didn't qualify for the World Cup in 1994. Much to Rob's distress you'd imagine...

Birmingham look useful. They've had some great opportunities, but Hull have had more, it's just a shame they haven't taken them. There's a great second half on the way.

  15. HALF-TIME: Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 3 March 2016

So Birmingham lead at half-time with a deflected strike from Jon Toral.

Hull have had their moments, Jake Livermore hitting the post and Michael Dawson heading against the crossbar.

And we almost had a "goal of the season" contender from Blues striker Clayton Donaldson, but Allan McGregor kept out his stunning overhead kick.

The hosts lead, but still lots of life in this one.

  16. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 45 mins

One minute of added time to play.

And it looks like my prediction of another goal before half-time isn't going to prove correct, as Hull's Mo Diame turns Michael Morrison but curls his shot from 20 yards over the bar.

  17. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 43 mins

    Tom Garry
    BBC Sport at St Andrew's

"If there's a striker in the Championship who works harder than Clayton Donaldson, I have not seem him yet this season.

"What he lacks in technical skill, he more than makes up for in effort off the ball.

"And then there are those raw, instinctive moments like that overhead kick where his natural ability shines through. It would have been one of the best goals that the modern St Andrew's has seen."

  18. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 40 mins

Five minutes to go until half-time. Both sides are getting forward well. There's another goal in this before the break, I can feel it...

  19. Birmingham 1-0 Hullpublished at 37 mins

Almost 2-0 Birmingham, and almost a second for Jon Toral.

David Cotterill weaves his way into a crossing position and plants a cross on the head of Toral, who nods wide from eight yards.

  20. A case for the defence...published at 36 mins

    Birmingham 1-0 Hull

    Allan McGregorImage source, Rex Features

He's just made an incredible save, but it won't be clean sheet number 19 for Allan McGregor this evening.

Before kick-off, Hull had conceded the joint-fewest goals and kept the joint-most clean sheets in the Championship this term.

The team that matched them in both cases? Middlesbrough.
