You have to go back to December 2011 to find the last time West Bromwich Albion took a Premier League point off Manchester City, and to December 2008 to find the Baggies' last league win against today's opponents.

Roman Bednar scored the winner for Albion that day - remember him?

When the teams met back in August, City strolled to a 3-0 win at The Hawthorns with goals from David Silva, Yaya Toure and Vincent Kompany.

Tez: Has Kelechi Iheanacho done something to Pellegrini? I'm struggling to see what Bony does to get picked ahead of him.

Andy Knowles: Slow, laboured with poor passing. Again making the opposition look superior. Get Bony off, he is a waste of space.

  3. Subdued Citypublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

HT: Manchester City 1-1 West Brom

It's been a subdued first half from Manchester City, who have had 62% of possession but have managed only one shot on target - Sergio Aguero's penalty which levelled at 1-1.

Aguero's strike partner, Wilfried Bony, has touched the ball only 16 times - only two of those were inside the West Brom penalty area...

Some responses to a comment earlier about the number of empty seats at the Etihad Stadium today...

Seun Salami: Empty seats could belong to season ticket holders who are not able to attend the game. No big deal in that.

Michael Court: Stadium attendances Barcelona average attendance in La Liga 77,180. Average 13k empty seats a game. Bayern sell out though.

Thomas Scott: Good job City expanded the 'Emptihad' from 48,000 to 60,000....their fans now have two seats each!

  6. HALF-TIMEpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

    Manchester City 1-1 West Brom

Albion force a stoppage-time corner, which the home side clear from danger, and that's the end of the first period.

Stephane Sessegnon gave the visitors a surprise lead with a powerful low shot, but Sergio Aguero cancelled that out from the penalty spot.

A rare touch of the ball for Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony, who heads a left-wing cross wide of the post.

Two minutes to add on at the end of the first half.

Albion winger James McClean appeals for handball in the box against Pablo Zabaleta. He seemed convinced, the officials weren't, and Manchester City can clear.

The replays show Zabaleta landing on the ball and then brushing it with his arm as he fell. Would have been extremely harsh to see a spot-kick given for that.

Some nice build-up play from West Bromwich Albion almost gets them an opening inside the Manchester City box. A cross is played in but is cleared by the home defence.

It's Sergio Aguero who brings the ball away from danger in City's left-back position. Is there nothing this bloke can't or won't do for his team?

  10. Postpublished at 37 mins

    Manchester City 1-1 West Brom

There doesn't appear to be much intensity to Manchester City's build-up play. Lots of passing sideways from the home side, albeit against a West Brom team that's more than happy to sit deep and ask City to find a way through them.

Jesus Navas pleads for a foul by James McClean - he doesn't get it.

Colin Jeffrey: I wonder if Pep Guardiola really understands the kind of club City are? Why are always empty seats at the Etihad? Regardless of whether they are playing in Europe on Tuesday. I doubt Barcelona or Bayern Munich EVER fail to sell out ANY game. Money does not make a team 'big'. Ludicrous to see empty seats, it makes my blood boil. No excuse.

West Bromwich Albion get a free-kick on the edge of the 'D'. The referee saw something, maybe a handball?

Anyway, Craig Gardner takes it and fires it straight into a wall of sky blue shirts.

In the next passage of play, Gardner goes in high on Jesus Navas and catches the City winger on the boot. A yellow card for the Baggies midfielder.

Just a little reminder that West Bromwich Albion are around in this match, as substitute Craig Gardner sends a low shot wide from 20 yards.

Credit to the Baggies, they've started this game pretty well.

Looking at the average positions of Manchester City's players in the opening 27 minutes, it would appear they're trying a new 2-6-2 formation...

In truth, full-backs Aleksandar Kolarov and Pablo Zabaleta aren't being forced to do too much defending and are joining in with City's attacks at every opportunity.

Aleksandar Kolarov doesn't usually need a second invitation to shoot and the Manchester City left-back has a go from 30 yards - his effort flies behind for a corner.

Eliaquim Mangala heads the resulting cross over the bar.

The home crowd still a little subdued, even after Sergio Aguero's equaliser.
