Andrew Priestly: The state of Samir Nasri's hair! Almost as bad a Joe Hart's goalkeeping for that opening goal. Not at the near post man!!

David Robinson: Joe Hart was as far away from his near post as City are of winning the league this season.

Baidu Sheikh: Referee with a brilliant interception there.

Manchester City have had five corners in the first 12 minutes but Albion have been more than equal to all of them.

It's been a flat start by the home side.

    Manchester City 0-1 West Brom

Well that's a turn up. What have you got in response to that, Manchester City? Not a lot thus far, and now Eliaquim Mangala gives away a cheap free-kick in his own half for a tug on the shirt of Salomon Rondon.

It's whipped in dangerously from the right but it drifts out for a goal kick.

What a strike from Stephane Sessegnon to put West Bromwich Albion in front at the Etihad Stadium!

Manchester City give possession away cheaply, the Baggies break down the left touchline and James McClean's cross finds Sessegnon, who drills low into the net at the near post past Joe Hart.

    Manchester City 0-0 West Brom

It's as you'd expect in the early stages - Manchester City are seeing a lot of the ball, the visitors are sitting deep and allowing City to have it near the halfway line, but then closing down quickly as soon as there's any possible danger around their penalty area.

Before today, the West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper had kept four clean sheets in nine Premier League games since returning from long-term injury in January.

Given that Albion have conceded three times in each of their last five league outings against City, one thinks he may be a busy boy again.

    Manchester City 0-0 West Brom

A win for Manchester City will take them to within two points of third-placed Arsenal, and crucially four points ahead of local rivals Manchester United in fifth.

Results elsewhere today have seen West Bromwich Albion drop to 12th - they will move up a place to 11th if they avoid defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Let's get going then, shall we? The Baggies in red get us under way.

  8. What the managers saypublished at 17:26 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

Manchester City v West Brom (17:30 BST)

As the teams make their way onto the field at a wet Etihad Stadium, let's see what the managers have had to say in the build-up to this game...

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini: "Last weekend (at Bournemouth) everyone could have been thinking about the Champions League, but we were focused on that game and I think the team played very well.

"That was important for the trust and Saturday is exactly the same."

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis: "We are delighted that, with seven games to go, we have 40 points.

"When you look at the bottom of the table, it's been such an eye opener to see those clubs in that position. They are massive clubs. Everyone outside will understand how difficult this league is and you should never take it for granted."

  9. 'The ideal game for Manchester City'published at 17:24 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

Manchester City v West Brom (17:30 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC Sport football expert

"This is the ideal game for Manchester City in the middle of their two Champions League matches against Paris St-Germain.

"I would not say it will be routine for City - because not a lot has been routine for them of late - but they are at home and they will be buoyed by their draw in Paris.

"West Brom's problems in attack have been well documented and it is hard to see them improving in that area at Etihad Stadium. Hopefully they will not have the wrong player sent off this time, though, which is what happened on their last visit."

    Prediction: 2-0

    Kevin de BruyneImage source, Reuters

Was this the moment that Manchester City's Premier League title chances were irretrievably dented?

City were only three points off the top of the table when Kevin de Bruyne was injured in January, but they took only seven points from the seven league matches they played before the Belgium midfielder returned to action last weekend at Bournemouth.

Since De Bruyne made his Premier League debut in September, City have won 50% of the games he has played in and just 27% when he hasn't featured.

It's just a watching brief for De Bruyne today - initially, at least. He starts on the bench.

  11. 'City have little margin for error'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

Manchester City v West Brom (17:30 BST)

    Steve Bower
    Match of the Day commentator

"If Manchester City had produced the spirit that was evident in Paris in midweek on a more consistent basis, they would be right in the hunt for the Premier League title.

"Bournemouth were the latest to witness City's potential capabilities last weekend, and West Brom will hope City's European excursions will have an adverse effect at the Etihad.

"There appears to be little margin for error to make sure Pep Guardiola has Champions League football to look forward to next season but, while Sergio Aguero is fit and firing, they look to be in the driving seat.

"West Brom, having reached their first target of 40 points, face an uphill task against a team they've managed only one point against in their last 12 league meetings."

  12. No rush to sign new deal - Pulispublished at 17:16 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

Manchester City v West Brom (17:30 BST)

Sitting nicely on 40 points and with a 13-point gap to the bottom three, West Bromwich Albion can surely start planning for another season in the top flight.

Tony Pulis has a little more than a year remaining on his contract at The Hawthorns, and the Baggies boss is happy to wait before entering talks over a new deal.

"I would prefer to sit with (chairman) Jeremy Peace and have a nice glass of wine and a bite to eat," said Pulis.

"We'll talk about the season and talk about the future. That's what I have done for years. I still have a year left, there's no rush in doing anything else."

  13. April showerspublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 9 April 2016

Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri didn't look best pleased at being showered in what looked like hailstones during the pre-match warm-up.

It's absolutely bucketing down at the Etihad Stadium. Should make for a zippy surface, if nothing else.

Manchester City will have been intently watching West Ham's progress a little earlier today.

The Hammers are two points behind fourth-placed City, as Andy Carroll's hat-trick was only enough for a 3-3 draw against Arsenal.

City's local rivals Manchester United, who face Tottenham tomorrow, are fifth and a point behind Manuel Pellegrini's side at the start of play.

Manchester City v West Brom (17:30 BST)

Even the most optimistic of Manchester City supporters would probably concede that winning a third Premier League title in five seasons is beyond their team.

    But not manager Manuel Pellegrini...

When asked if City's title chances had gone, Pellegrini replied: "No - I repeat the same answer from one month ago. When there's mathematically a chance, you must always continue thinking you can do it.

"The only thing is it doesn't depend on what you can do. The only thing you can do is win your games, and that's our mentality.

"We have a lot of points to recover and it's not easy, but you must continue not giving up, playing well and winning your points."

With that in mind, you could forgive Manchester City for having one eye on Tuesday's return leg against Paris St-Germain.

But there's some Premier League business for City to attend to first, with mid-table West Bromwich Albion the visitors to the Etihad Stadium.

There may be a 15-point gap to leaders Leicester and only seven games left to play, but manager Manuel Pellegrini hasn't given up hope of the title yet...
