"Leicester have had the answers to every question that has been posed.

"I thought the telling period was around Christmas when they had Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in a short space of time.

"There was still half a season left after those games. Could they keep it going? That was the test and they have come through it."

  4. A less intense Liverpool?published at 11:40

    Swansea v Liverpool (12:00 BST)

    Alistair Mann
    MOTD commentator

"Sandwiched between the two legs of their finely balanced Europa League semi-final, Liverpool will be forgiven for approaching this game with a great deal less intensity than you would normally associate with a Jurgen Klopp side.

"With relegation pressures having evaporated, it perhaps offers Swansea the opportunity to record a rare victory against a team they've beaten only once since returning to the top division in 2011.

"Having effectively completed his short-term mission, Francesco Guidolin's future has now become the main focus of the Welsh footballing scribes.

"If, as they predict, the Italian will be moving on in the summer, he will certainly be very keen to have as high a Premier League finish as possible on his CV, as well as a victory over Liverpool."

    Akabusi brings it home

Time to look at some other big sporting shocks.

Mike Powell all but leaping out of the sand pit, Liz McColgan powering to gold in the 10,000m, Carl Lewis breaking the 100m world record.

The 1991 world athletics championships had plenty going for them. But nothing - for a British fan - quite like the men's 4x400m relay.

It was a Sunday morning (UK time), and the United States team were nailed-on favourites – but a cunning tactical switch to send out Roger Black (thought to be their best runner, who usually ran the anchor leg) out first in the final paid off. Big time.

They switched from their usual running order of (1) Derek Redmond, (2) Kriss Akabusi, (3) John Regis and (4) Black to (1) Black, (2) Redmond, (3) Regis and (4) Akabusi.

It left Akabusi (a 400m hurdler, lest we forget, rather than an out-and-out sprinter, who had only taken bronze in the hurdles) running the anchor leg against USA’s Antonio Pettigrew, the 400m world champion. Even though Pettigrew had a lead at the changeover, Akabusi kept with him and then beat him on the home straight.

    Pettigrew could not believe it.

A handy guide for a global audience:, external

"British bookmakers listed Leicester City — pronounced Less-ter — as a 5,000-to-1 shot to emerge as the Premier League champion; by comparison, the so-called Miracle Mets of 1969 were a 100-to-1 choice."

    French Ligue 1

In 2012, the unglamorous French side Montpellier did to Ligue 1 what Leicester City are doing to the Premier League this season. And they managed to finish the job.

Their entire playing budget - 33m euros (£25m) - was less than what rivals Paris St-Germain paid for Javier Pastore, but somehow they managed to shock French football by finishing above Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Carlo Ancelotti's PSG to win the first league title in their history.

"I would say don't change a thing, keep going as you are now. Stay yourselves," says then Montpellier boss Rene Girard.

"You can see that desire, you can see that they are not asking too many questions, you can see that they are playing with freedom. I know Ranieri from his time at Monaco.

"He is someone I really respect. He knows better than anyone how to manage this. It looks like a group who know they can achieve something special. Don't let any players leave the mould that you created at the start of the season."

Sport sees its fair share of shocks, of upsets. Of course it does. That is why we love it.

But what would truly mark out a Leicester title win, to me at least, is that they would have consistently and constantly upset the odds.

    Bigger than this...

Wigan winning the FA Cup was improbable. A Leicester title should be impossible.

Burton reaching the Championship was improbable. A Leicester title should be impossible.

Buster Douglas knocking out Mike Tyson was improbable. A Leicester title should be impossible.

    I could go on.

    And we will...
