But it's not only Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in action tonight. It's also a pretty big night for another Catalan.

Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola is coming to the end of his three-year reign in Bavaria and this is his final chance to guide them to the Champions League crown.

They are on course to win the league for the third time under him, but they have fallen at the last-four stage in the previous two Champions Leagues.

And considering they were the European champions when Guardiola took over, an exit tonight would leave some serious doubt over how good a job he's actually done in Germany.

It probably hasn't helped him too much that the team he's taking over in the summer - Manchester City - are in the semis.

Atletico Madrid v Barcelona (19:45 BST)

Last season Barcelona won the treble in Luis Enrique's first season in charge - in fact in his 22 months in charge he hasn't experienced failure in any major tournament.

But Barca come into this match with one point from their past three La Liga games - blowing the title race open again - and having only won the first leg against Atletico after the Madrid side went down to 10 men.

Throw into the equation that Lionel Messi hasn't scored in his past four Barcelona games and that they face a team who have kept 12 clean sheets in their past 14 Champions League home games, and maybe - just maybe -  it's adeu for Barca.

  4. Barcelona on the ropes?published at 18:30

Could tonight be the night Barcelona's Champions League dream dies?

In a bad run of form and with their talisman on a relative goalscoring drought, tonight they face one of the most difficult tasks in world football - going to Atletico Madrid and knowing a 1-0 defeat will knock you out.

Only once in the last nine years have Barca failed to reach the Champions League semi-finals - and that when they faced Atleti in the 2014 quarters.

If this game doesn't excite you, you're probably in the wrong place. Buckle in for a fascinating evening of European football.
