Lionel Messi might well have been taken into a witness protection scheme. He's been anonymous. Oh here he is! The Barca talisman scurries towards the Villarreal box, tries to play a one-two with Neymar, only for the home defence to hack clear.

Barcelona knock on the Villarreal door. Sergio Asenjo slams it shut. The home keeper leaps low to his left to push Dani Alves' 20-yard strike away from danger. 

Five minutes left. Anything is still a possibility...

Standing ovation for Roberto Soldado. The Villarreal striker is replaced by Brazilian forward Leo Baptistao. Can he make the difference? 

Ooooh, nervy times for the hosts. Keeper Sergio Asenjo palms out Jordi Alba's lofted ball from the left bye-line...only to the feet of Ivan Rakitic. But the Croatian midfielder loses his head, smashing high and wide from 15 yards. Big let-off.

Been very watchable has this game. Especially if you're sat in the El Madrigal sunshine with a jamon y queso sandwich, I'd imagine. 

Fourth-placed Villarreal break down the right as they aim to end Barca's 38-match unbeaten run. But a yellow shirt can't pounce on the cross into the box.

It's getting interesting in the Netherlands where Ajax lead champions PSV Eindhoven 1-0 at half-time in their summit meeting.

Top scorer Arkadiusz Milik has got the goal for Ajax, who will go above PSV to the top of the table with six games to go if they hold on.

Barca are dominating again. Oh my...they won't force a winner like this. Dani Alves, jeered by the Villarreal fans (he ate a banana after receiving racist abuse at El Madrigal in 2014 remember) shanks a cross from the right flank.

It is being reported that the Galatasaray v Fenerbahce derby scheduled for this evening in Istanbul has been called off due to a terrorist threat.

Cedric Bakambu's afternoon is over. Villarreal's opening goalscorer limps off to be replaced by Adrian Lopez. 

Not happening for Barca. The visitors ride the storm as Villarreal sniff more Catalan blood, then go on the attack themselves. 

Luis Suarez jumps up and down on the spot like a spoiled kid who is not allowed to the school disco after being grounded. His sloppy pass towards Lionel Messi, in a central position about 25 yards out, is cut out by a yellow shirt.

Villarreal fancy this! The noise inside the El Madrigal goes up a notch, Claudio Bravo called into action again, before seeing a header flash past the post. Villarreal can't, can they?

Another Barca change. Right-back Dani Alves comes on for Arda Turan.

Gerard Pique's afternoon is over. Whether he is injured or not, I don't know. But with the centre-back on a yellow and this ref loving dishing out his card, it's probably a wise move. On comes Jeremy Mathieu.

Couple more decent opportunities for the home side. Chance one: they win a free-kick on the edge of the Barca box. Bruno smashes a weak delivery into the wall. Chance two: Trigueros weaves into a bit of space, only to fire over the crossbar.

Villarreal create the first real chance of the second half. But forward Cedric Bakambu shoots weakly into the arms of Barca keeper Claudio Bravo.

Barca cruised along in third gear before half-time, but quickly find their rhythm after the restart. Luis Suarez sniffs and paws at a couple of potential openings, only to be forced backwards by a wall of yellow shirts.
